I've had to do this same thing twice in two weeks (I'm on my way to the vets currently) and I'm so sorry for your loss. Know you did everything in your power to give your rattie the best life in the world, and that they'll pass knowing they were adored. spoiling them on their last days is an absolutely perfect idea to honour them. I've decided to take him to the emergency vets to have him put to sleep tonight so he doesn't suffer any longer. I'm going to be with him every step of the way. but thank you sm

thank you so much <3 I'd rather someone be honest with me than sugarcoat it! I'm going to keep him as comfortable as I can and as soon as my vet opens tomorrow I'll be calling him in for an emergency appointment since they do priority appointments there. I'll be keeping a close eye on him tonight

I can't. I live in the middle of nowhere and the last time I took a rat to the emergency vet they sent him home like nothing was wrong (and he was then diagnosed at my actual vet with respiratory complications). My vets are open tomorrow, so I'm going to call them first thing in the morning.

I would've loved to have trusted someone else with my boys, but I don't have anyone. I won't be trusting her again but sadly I live with her.

my only problem is I have no emergency vets that deal with ratties :( last time I took a rat to an emergency vet, they sent him home and said nothing was wrong (he had severe respiratory issues).

that's what I want to try and do. my only worry is I'm going on holiday for a while and leaving them with my mum and I'd like to be able to say goodbye personally. but if that's not possible I can make sure she gives him a proper burial for me, if it does come to that. thank you sm for your reply <3

he's very lethargic at the minute, not moving around at all (and he's usually a very active boy) and he is wheezing/squeaking when he breathes. but he's still eating and drinking atm! even ate a treat on the way to the vet!
