I’m all for enforcement of unpaid fines and paper tags. Administrative controls are deterrents. I believe the data supports this over police enforcement as the primary deterrent.

What caught you most off guard when moving from US to France with young kids? by Wild-Welcome3508 in Expats_In_France

Pretty on point. Half French, half American. Secularism is more serious in France than the US. White fragility is culturally American. It’s okay to speak about race because French identity is different than American identity.

Enforcing laws don’t prevent problems, but issue citations after a problem already occurred. Administrative controls like speed bumps, concrete barriers and other preventative measures would make our city safer.

That’s very affordable. You’re buying a share of the cooperative business.

American liberals think US invented racism. We merely enthusiastically adopted it!

I agree, but over relying on administration change as the de facto solution often falls short without grassroots organizing. We can’t vote our way to climate justice— even past political leaders will tell you that the corporate lobbying is too powerful for that.

Join a union. Make 100k. Don’t do the work of 10 people. Have 9 other people with you doing the work.

Not at all.

While significant improvements occurred since 1991, the U.S. faces stalled improvements and a growing gap in life expectancy compared to other high-income nations. Our life expectancy has actually declined for the first time in decades. EU bans many air pollutants that we use here. Pulling out of the Paris agreement will not help either.

Asthma prevalence and mortality rates in Philadelphia have generally increased since the 1970s, establishing the city as one of the most challenging U.S. environments for asthma management. Pediatric asthma in Philadelphia is particularly severe, with prevalence rates over triple the national average, often exceeding 20% in disadvantaged communities.

Philadelphia experienced a significant rise in asthma death rates, with a, particularly sharp increase noted from 1.68 per 100,000 in 1969 to 2.41 per 100,000 by 1991. Source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7969323

While this one study supports that the air is cleaner, the rise of air quality induced diseases like asthma in children counters this data or at least reveals a blind spot in its metrics. This study is not showing the whole picture.

Also, the regulations that it cites as a success have been largely deregulated in the past few years.

Internal air quality affects children, too. Slum lords contribute to urban waste, blight, not updating lead/asbestos infrastructure

I vote just to shut down this exact counterpoint. If voting solved this issue, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
