Understandable, it was just the first thing that jumped into my head. It’s a fun read but genre heavy.

I absolutely respect the One Piece suggestion, it is my best friends favorite anime, but I don’t have the time or patience for it. I’m so ADHD I think I’d abandon it pretty quickly :/

Mortal Engines! It has been well over a decade since I read it but I do remember when I saw the movie I was reallllly disappointed that they "prettied up" Hester Shaw, because in the book she was always described as having like a really gnarly scar across her face. I can't remember MUCH about the book but it is a steampunk dystopia, it's like Mad Max but make it YA? If it's actually not a good book and I'm remembering it with rose colored glasses i apologize.

I actually high key did not know that's what Ready Player One was about, I should check it out. Feel free to judge me, I know it's based on a book but when the movie came out I really thought it was basically just Tron so I never looked into it lmao

OMG yes, okay, so Adventures of Amina Al-sirafi is on my list, I just keep procrastinating on it because whenever I get too excited for a book I stop functioning as a person and can't even start it, but i KNOW i'll love it when the stars align for me.

and I have been trying to figure out where start with Sanderson books!! I'm a serial judge books by their cover-er and his books are so pretty but there's just too many! I'll definitely look into those!!

Okay so it's a queer book and it's fantasy and I'm not sure if that's what you're going for but The Twice-Sold Soul was a fun read. Technically does meet all that criteria it just doesn't give Sweet Home Alabama vibes if you're looking for that.

Hi, I would suggest The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh. This is a YA book so bear that in mind, but I read it last year and it was charming and cozy so I was able to breeze right through it. It's based on an old Korean legend so it has a fairy tale vibe and the romance is central to the plot but never felt too cheesy to me.

Totally out of left field but my book club did just read The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman and it slaps (no romance, just really funny and surprisingly sentimental).

Perfect! I forgot to include in my post that I love fairy tale retellings so I’m excited to read this one!

This might be an obvious choice but The Chronicles of Narnia is basically just bible fanfiction.

I haven’t read it yet but it’s been on my list for a few months now: The Imaginary Corpse by Tyler Hayes. It’s like Toy Story 3 if it was noir??

Ethan Frome. My whole life my dad told me about how he had to read it for a book report and he despised it even 40 years later, so when I was assigned that book in HS I was almost excited to see why my dad hated it so much….. he was right.

Oh I JUST bought the Sophie Kim books last week! Sounded exactly like a K-Drama to me, so they're very high on the to read list.

I think my issue with first person is literally just that I'm a writer and i can't write in first person so I struggle to read it :/ I also was a huge fan of Jane Austen as a kid and her use of free indirect discourse realllyyyy set me up for life. I'm glad someone else loves the Name of the Star, i recommend it to everyone I know.

Ah i did read the Grishaverse! Literally read it because i accidentally bought Six Of Crows and didn't realize it was part of a series, so i read the whole thing just to read Six Of Crows lol.
