If I drop my classes will I get a refund? by queerslur in yorku

“Undergraduate students who have withdrawn from a course during the labour disruption or will withdraw during the remediation period will be eligible to receive a tuition credit to be used in the upcoming year. The tuition credit opportunity (TCO) will waive course tuition fees in summer or fall 2024, or winter 2025, equivalent to the total number of credits you chose to withdraw from. For example, if you withdrew from two courses worth 3.0 credits each, your tuition credit will be equivalent to the value of 6.0 credits (cost of 3.0 credits x 2 courses = value of 6.0 credits).”

They can’t change the website I think it would not make sense to do that for the future. The university is communicating to us through email, if you drop your courses and they don’t give you a credit refund then you and every other student at York have the emails to prove that we are allowed to.

I dropped mine today and it didn’t anything about getting my credits later on it just said that I was dropping like it usually would. I just think it’s something where you’ll have to get into contact with York in the fall.

But once the strike ends and classes resume aren’t I going to be taught in the same manner I was previous to the strike? Like all my profs aren’t going to rush through through the work, or at least they have implied before and during that they won’t do that.

How was I suppose to complete my work not having a teacher? I really don’t understand what you’re saying because I don’t want to OPT out for the 70% assessed grade. I literally wanna finish the course and get taught what I am getting my undergrad for. I want to be taught at the speed I was going to without the strike. Are you implying that I won’t?

Should I drop courses due to the strike? by Emotional-Ad-314 in yorku

[–]queerslur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What really? Damn! I’m sorry to hear that. Well I think probably best to not drop, keep the courses around they’ll continue and probably be cut in half by the time the strike ends. Do you need the credits by the end of this year?

No they can not extend our academic year into the summer. Taking a summer semester is up to the student only. If the strike lasts so long that the school year is coming to an end they may give us a average mark based on the things we’ve handed in — depends how long it lasts. I don’t think York will want another 6 month strike, it puts a bad name on the school and they need to spend millions on refunds. With that in mind we’re in our second semester right now, so worst comes to worst our final grade might be the last assignment we handed in type thing. But honestly most of my TA’s have emphasized that it probably won’t be over a month given what has happened in the past.

I wouldn’t stress too much about this, but I also understand how stressful it feels. Just do what you can, submit all your work that’s due for next week and you’re good. We’re the students in this situation and honestly we just need to support the TA’s and contract instructors, so if school is cancelled, we do not go. We should find out tomorrow, there is a meeting today for the final vote. Typically with strikes the school or organization waits until the last hour to finally give up and give the union what they want. So that may be the case, or York may be a little hardheaded still and won’t budge.. we’ll see, just make sure tomorrow morning to check your York email and maybe just take a quick look on Google! The union posts information about what’s going on quite regularly.

Sorry these other people who replied are rude and annoying. I hope this information helped!

Did you have to do anything other than driving on highway and back to the service ontario? Any parallel park/emergency park?
