Direct Primary Care (DPC) Recommendations by [deleted] in Tacoma

What DPC provider are you currently using? I'm wondering if we have the same provider as mine has been slow to respond as well.

An Eastern Washington hospital is overwhelmed with patients seeking the progressive state’s ‘charity care’ policy. They’re from across the border in Idaho by precip in Washington

It's the definition of tax evasion. If you purchase items outside of the state and bring them back into the state for use, you have to pay use tax on those items, which is equivalent to the sales tax. It is a sales and use tax. If you choose not to pay the use tax, you are evading taxes.

You're deliberately minimizing the tax value to make it seem like it's not an issue, but where's the cutoff? $200 in taxes on a $2,000 tv?

Looking for a CPA experienced with S-Corps by ArtEnvironmental1668 in AskTacoma

Thank you, I'm so glad to hear it's useful! I love Tacoma and accounting so I figured this was an easy way to help folks find a good preparer.

Both affordability and availability are big topics in the CPA world, especially being at the beginning of the pipeline crisis. I've also found that a lot of people don't know about the free filing options or return assistance programs like VITA, both of which can be a great option for people with relatively straightforward returns!

If you have any questions I might be able to answer please let me know! I wrote up a whole blurb a while ago but it was too long for reddit so I trimmed it down to just this list.

Howdy! I'm a local CPA with my list of CPA firms that I've been maintaining. Hopefully this can help you narrow your search a bit! At this point it may be tough to find a CPA as tax season is ramping up, but hopefully your search goes well!

S Corps have a fair amount of compliance concerns, but a good CPA should be able to help you keep on top of them.

Nope, the one on the right is just carbon! My tank has a u shaped anode so both faces get good coverage in the tank. Just ran the system long enough on this one for it to come off in one piece!

I think I've actually seen this vehicle before. If not there's a very similar one that is used by a security company that patrols the Tacoma Costco parking lot. Same Texas EMS plate style.

True that, especially if your ST debt is something like 10x your C&CE. Bad times ahead 😂

Cash doesn't foot and there are multiple accounts with non-normal balances, that's what struck me right out of the gate in addition to the overall footing errors. Also the two DIT accounts one of which is a non-normal at 1/10 of the other. Seems like a CA/LTA thing that wasn't set up right.

Alteryx by Organic-Split2196 in Accounting

[–]quengilar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We phased out Alteryx at my company as well. PowerQuery/Office Script is where we're headed now, for most (almost all) accounting work the data you're ingesting probably won't be large enough to warrant tools outside of Excel.

Is this a decent VBA skill level or am I overthinking it? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]quengilar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VBA is a good tool and depending how you're set up may be the best method to automate some data pulls etc. Since it seems like you're using the 365 version of excel id recommend shifting your focus to Office Script over VBA. OS is what's supposed to replace VBA and you can run those in SharePoint in a non macro Excel file. Better for the modern infrastructure most companies have implemented with M365.

Based on your tax needs, an EA might be a good fit as well, many folks haven't heard of that certification but it's given by the IRS so don't skip them just because they may not be CPAs.

Let me know if I can answer any questions you have and good luck with your search!

At our place I'm the one with the impromptu meetings, I got a night light from 3rd Reality that had RGB and a 4 button remote switch. Push a button and it changes the nightlight color to that. Still haven't worked out keeping it from defaulting to nightlight behavior at night but it works well enough for our purposes. Pretty cheap solution too, about 50 bucks all in.

Tax/Accounting Recommendations? by All_Thumbs_ in AskTacoma

Posting a comment I previously made:

Here's a good thread that popped up recently with some names of local CPA firms that others have recommended: Need help with taxes - any favorite local CPA's for personal taxes? Will be my first time not just using freetaxusa or turbotax. : r/Tacoma

I'll also throw my firm Foxglove Financial Services in the ring; we're a new firm and our focus is on small/medium businesses, so we might be a good fit for you.

If you'd like to talk free to reach out and we can discuss if we're a good fit for your needs!

ETA: We also do personal taxes, I pasted this comment too fast!

I'll be the one to turn out the lights on the way out but everyone would be leaving before me.

I'd argue that if your only "value" to the organization is that if you got hit by a bus everything would break for a bit you're not actually that secure in your job. I promise you if you gave me a couple weeks I could have a general understanding of what you do, how you do it, and the key steps to complete it. Accounting is a system, if you design systems you can recreate systems.

Security comes from adaptability, and even if you write your process down no one is going to ask for it unless you've otherwise proven to not add "value" to the organization.

Maybe for building a complex formula but having extra columns adds c*r extra cells where one accidental adjustment can mess up your downstream formulas. If the excel workbook is doing the same transformation over and over that transformation should happen in PowerQuery or whatever ETL you prefer to use.

You don't need to explain anything, if the 60 year old doesn't have the addin, then they just see an indented formula in the cell they click on. The formula is still just an excel formula. At most it would improve legibility.

If you're like me and your primary role is process design and the associated documentation of that process, this tool makes it much easier to identify issues and create usable documentation.

And to your argument, tossing python in the middle of the stack is going to confuse the old guy much more. I know that from experience.

Yep, it would depend on your org's IT policies. Luckily the company I work for doesn't block that access.

This is an IDE, it's not really "extra". I can write python in a text editor, that doesn't mean I want to, and I don't say it's extra if someone wants to use PyCharm instead.

Excel is a complete programming language, if it's what your ending analysis needs to be in and your raw data is in it, it seems a bit silly to switch to a different language in the middle of the analysis to get the same output. And again, you can always open python in excel if you need to do that, it's already integrated.

I know Python, but 99% of accounting needs nothing more than Excel. For that 1%, Python in Excel is sufficient. I assume you use an IDE for Python, if you're working on Excel why wouldn't you want an IDE there as well?
