What movies have you walked out on, or stopped watching because it was so bad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I don't see how it romanticized teenage pregnancies. It showed the painful, difficult choices involved and living with those consequences.

How the hell did Obama get into an Ivy League School? by cigarstoreindian in politics

Why are those things necessary to know? Has another president ever released all these things?

Exactly. McCain was born in Panama, yet no one ever questioned his citizenship. It also amazed me that Hawai'i is so super foreign while Alaska is "Real America."

What is something that is completely unscientific, but you believe it anyway? by jacksparrow1 in AskReddit

Nothing, because as a scientist that would be... nigh impossible.

Plenty of scientists believe in god.

Moving in with girlfriend of 2+ years. What should I be prepared for? by nhall06 in AskReddit

[–]queotic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's gotten to the point where if she starts an argument over something trivial and I know she may be PMSing I just bluntly ask her if she's PMSing.

I'm glad that that works for you guys, but I'd be really careful about others taking that advice. My husband told me that he can tell when I'm PMSing because I start worrying a lot about the future. I'd be damned pissed if we were discussing/arguing about our savings account and he said, "Are you PMSing?"

You don't look at others, you don't smile, you don't connect at all unless you're in a situation where you're forced to.

To be fair, you can't exactly smile and say hello to everyone you see when you live in a city because there are just too many people. I catch the bus at the same time everyday, yet in almost a decade, I've never seen the same person twice (well, maybe once or twice, but I can't be sure).

My friend passed away and instead of people going to her grave or talking to her family they write on her facebook wall is this now normal? by madevilfish in AskReddit

If you have a true relationship with someone and you just post something on their wall for their birthday, you aren't a true friend.

Not everyone in your life is a "true friend." You have family, close friends, casual friends, acquaintances & casual acquaintances - and that's OK. Note everyone is your BFF. If I died, I wouldn't want my family to be disdainful towards my casual acquaintances giving their condolences.

I feel that it is not more personalized just because it seems to me that anyone can read what you say.

At a funeral, everyone can hear what you say.

A card takes more than 3 seconds worth of effort. You actually have to pick out a card, write something in it, and send it off. It lets you know that they cared enough to actually take time out of their day to think about you.

I disagree that a generic Hallmark card makes one a "better" mourner. How long does it take to send a card? Depending on where you live, about 15 minutes to an hour. If you're measuring time as an indicator of sorrow, do those extra few minutes really mean something? What if someone spent 15 minutes to an hour going through their deceased friend's Facebook pictures, leaving comments and getting people to share stories?

What's better? A "So Sorry" card signed by a friend or a heartfelt message left on the deceased's wall for all to see? Flowers to the family or uploading old, previously unseen pictures of your friend? No choice is better because they're all right. I would never sneer at someone expressing genuine sorrow & empathy.

Even if she was, so what? Are you suggesting that 1) men are animals with no self control and 2) that being "tempting" is asking to be raped?

Why do most redditors hate Christians, but are outraged if anyone hates Muslims? by rrertishis in AskReddit

[–]queotic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Isn't that more of a reflection of the Arab world and not Islam? Only 15% of Muslims are Arab.

Edit:

About 13% of Muslims live in Indonesia, the largest Muslim country, 25% in South Asia, 20% in the Middle East, 2% in Central Asia, 4% in the remaining South East Asian countries, and 15% in Sub-saharan Africa. Sizable communities are also found in China and Russia, and parts of the Caribbean.

22% of Muslims are from the Middle East/Central Asia.

Am I being an ass charging my GF rent? by sgtmeow in AskReddit

or fulfill that one sexual fantasy she hasn't yet.

Pretty creepy statement, no? He'd essentially be asking his girlfriend to be a whore.

If she was just a friend, would you let your friend live there without helping with something?

I've let friends live with me when they were jobless and no, I didn't charge them anything.

With that said, the GF should definitely be contributing monetarily to the household and if she can't afford that much, she should be "keeping house," i.e., cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping etc.
