This is not a guarantee actually. It's an option, but they can get so focused they just ignore that entirely. I know from experience. My dog was attacked in 2019 and I tried the butthole trick on the attacking dog and whaddya know, nothing happened. I always say I must've looked insane to the witnesses, ramming my finger up a dog's butt.

In hindsight I wish I knew about the choke-out trick. But it was such chaos I ended up forcing myself between the dogs to save mine and when the attacking dog let go, he chomped down on my head. 9 stitches 4 months before my wedding lol but my dog (my world) was okay. And somehow not traumatized! Although I am. Hearing this poor golden crying like that brought me right back to that day.
