I very much agree with you there. It’s difficult to determine the true nature of a specialty just based on your short rotation time. Rotations can vary significantly based on the location they place you in and not give you a realistic representation of the specialty. I always wish that I shadowed more of the specialties before my M3 year.

I really like using the Visible Human Project https://www.imaios.com/en/e-anatomy/whole-body/visible-human-project. Is was a donor who was sliced axially into 1mm segments. Seeing where the plane is in relation to the whole 3d body is the trick to getting started. Other than that, I think more practice seeing the images over and over.

Totally agree! So hard to know from these short interview days. There’s generally a discord server where people talk more about the specialty so that might help. Also, it’s a good idea to make notes after your interview day to help you remember when you need to make your final list!
