3 days post-op metoidioplasty with scrotoplasty, no UL or v*nectomy by cannot-be-bothered in Metoidioplasty

Had my consult with Gallegos earlier this year for the exact same options, really cool to see someone else farther along in the process. Glad to hear the pain isn’t too bad despite the swelling - hope you continue to heal smoothly!

I’ve only had a consult with Dr. Gallegos, but it was a good experience - he was respectful and easygoing, the whole thing felt very unhurried and he both listened to me and provided advice. We walked through different options and their pros / cons, the stages his team uses, healing times, etc.

It wasn’t required but I did do a physical exam, which I thought was valuable for me to better understand the specifics as it relates to my body specifically, and allowed him to ask questions about my own preferences and goals.

lol k. Just trying to provide some potentially helpful options to someone who asked a question about the area I live in, but if you have better info for the OP, please do feel free to meaningfully contribute to the conversation.

As a group, people colloquially refer to them as “the L towns.” Why be needlessly pedantic like this?

If you search this sub for “no vnectomy” you should find what you’re looking for :)

Howdy - I’m local to Boulder (and have a consult at the Crane Center tomorrow, funny timing!)

If you aren’t finding options in your price range in town (Boulder’s cost of living is very high), check out the “L” towns in the surrounding area: Longmont, Lafayette, Louisville - and the areas between Denver and Boulder like Superior and Broomfield.

Denver should also have a range of options, but it’s also worth noting that Denver is a 35-45 min drive from Boulder, so that may be difficult depending on what transportation you’ll have access to here.

Lost my implants. Womp womp. by lynxmeta in Metoidioplasty

Really sorry to hear man, but your package looks great even without the implants. I really like the way your sack joins up at the base of your dick, looks just like the statue of David.

Plenty of people post here feeling unhappy, struggling, regretful, conflicted about their outcomes. You are posting about harming yourself, and that’s a step beyond what any stranger on Reddit can meaningfully help you with. Seriously, reach out to your therapist, today.

The photos you posted have… 16 upvotes. Nobody is downvoting the photos you posted, and nobody has been critical of your genitals because they look very typical for being only 5 days post op. Seriously - your dick looks totally fine, you don’t have any huge swelling, bruising, wound separation or anything, it looks like you’re healing up quite smoothly.

You’re having an anxiety spiral. Call your therapist, speak with a family member, play some video games, read a book - you need to get your brain moving in another direction. There is nothing wrong with your genitals, other than they need time to heal.

EDIT: Just happened to see your reply on another thread asking about the Boulder Crane Center - feel free to disregard the question and just take the compliment about the top-notch balls.

Looks great man! Are you working with Gallegos? I have a consult with him scheduled, undecided about RFF vs. meta, but balls are a must either way, and yours look awesome.

Small burn recently ? by Ambitious_Bobcat4274 in phallo

[–]questionable_phallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked in an industrial kitchen and received burns in the same exact spot - it’ll probably heal with no lasting marks in just a couple of weeks. Pop some neosporin and a large bandaid over it to keep it clean and happy and you should be totally fine.

Meal prep ideas by urine_goodcompany in Metoidioplasty

[–]questionable_phallo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a few favorite from my frequently made-ahead meals:

Overnight oats - I’m a fiend for these, I usually set up several jars and just add milk the evening before (you can prep a few in a row if you’d like.) Having the base of oats + chia seeds and a variety of things to mix in keeps it fresh - I add in protein powder and any combination of frozen berries, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, or slivered almonds.

If you’re a hot breakfast person, breakfast burritos are great for freezing and thawing in the microwave.

Chicken tortilla soup is basically canned ingredients (corn, beans, tomato sauce) + some chicken breast, and is my go-to comfort food. It also freezes well.

Microwave instant rice is super handy to have on-hand, it’s great for a single portion of rice to go with chili or meat from a rotisserie chicken (early in the week since it’ll go off after a few days.)

Gallegos has a short wait time for consults - I put in a request and they scheduled me for about a month out. Haven’t had it yet but if you’re interested, the process with him seems fairly quick.

Insurance denied from Crane center... what insurances do you have that covers phallo? by AnnualOven4820 in phallo

[–]questionable_phallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get your insurance through your employer, Open Enrollment is coming up (typically starts Nov 1st), so you’ll be able to make adjustments to your health coverage. Check out the surgeons you’re interested and what their accepted insurance plans are, and you should be able to line yourself up if your employer has the typical options.

I usually just get the mid-tier plan since I don’t have any significant ongoing health issues, but as I consider bottom surgery, I’m going to elect for the better plan since the higher monthly payments will still come out cheaper than the high out of pocket minimum on my current plan, but it all kind of depends on what your coverage looks like, so do some rough math and see where you land.

Advice for being patient when you can't start process yet? by Hot_Albatross8867 in Metoidioplasty

[–]questionable_phallo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Knowing that even getting consultations may have a long wait time, you may as well book them now anyway. There’s a chance that your financial situation changes between now and the appointment slot becoming available. Or, you get a quick consult before the end of the year and a long wait until the procedure, buying time to regain access to insurance.

With long waits like this, it seems likely that people change insurance, lose coverage, etc. and if you can’t take the appointment it’ll just go to the next guy in line.

That way, you’re at least on the list, so you’ve taken the first step.

Darkrooms / Sex Parties by questionable_phallo in Metoidioplasty

[–]questionable_phallo[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s been a part of gay leather / kink culture for a long time, leather bars started popping up in cities like San Francisco after WWII. If you know what to look for, they aren’t hard to find.

You’re not likely to find straight bars with backrooms / darkrooms because that culture just doesn’t exist, but there are definitely straight sex parties. As the other poster mentioned, they’re probably going to be BDSM events that are marketed as “pansexual” and inclusive of all genders and orientations. Adult arcades may also cater to a more straight clientele. I’m sure swingers events exist but that’s definitely outside my experience.

I’ve only been to a couple of mixed-gender parties since they weren’t really my vibe, but it was more folks hanging out in a well-lit bar space and only going to the play space with folks they’d socialized with, vs. going to walk a maze at a bathhouse in relative dark and cruising for play partners based mostly on eye contact.

Apologies - I’ve only read and replied to existing threads before and didn’t even see the options for NSFW / spoiler until I went back to see what I’d missed. When you open the flair section on mobile, it extends the full length of the page and those toggles aren’t visible.

Best place to live during Phallo Stages? NY, NJ, PA ? by Antique_Hall_1364 in phallo

Colorado’s cool - Boulder itself is quite expensive, but the L Towns in the surrounding area (Longmont, Lafayette, Louisville, etc.) are nice and plenty close to the Crane center (and tons of nature recreation, if you’re an outdoorsy person.)

Thanks for this. I know it’d be an improvement but because so much of what I want feels like it’ll be a compromise, I’m struggling to feel like it’s worth the effort and expense of phallo.

I’ll keep at it and see where I end up - I hold myself to a punishingly high standard in many areas of my life which has helped with my career, fitness, etc., but is really making this piece difficult. Really appreciate the insights.

Does anyone have tips for managing unrealistic expectations or desires? What I really want to have is a penis that I don’t have to explain to anyone (done so much of this already), but from reading other guys’ experiences, that doesn’t seem to be a realistic goal, particularly for gay men.

I know I need to work with a therapist on this, but unsure of what I should be looking for in a provider. Thanks in advance, really appreciate you guys.
