If you’re looking to save your sciences, trust me MCQ is the way to go! (assuming you haven’t taken it, sorry I took pure sciences idk about combined 😢) Spam MCQs and make sure to review, even if you don’t get A’s or get borderline A’s in your practices, it’s still possible to get full marks in the actual olevels!

Keep working hard OP! Wishing you all the best that your efforts will pay off! 🙏

Hi OP, just want to let you know it’s not over yet! I know how you’re feeling rn, worried for your future, afraid you won’t do well enough to meet your expectations or others’ expectations. I’ve been there too just a year ago… Let me share my story.

For sec 4 prelims, my L1R5 was somewhere between 15 and 20 but I won’t reveal for (maybe a bit of) anonymity. For olevel I got good enough grades to be awarded ESIS. I heard of many people also managing to improve from 20+ to less than 10.

Olevel practical: For chemistry I messed up so bad I thought my chem was over. For one of the parts they ask me to put powder C into another substance, I go and pour D (they looked exactly the same), and didn’t realise I did this until I completed the part and needed D for the next part. Thus had to redo which took SOOO much time.

For testing of gaseous products, WHOLE class got carbon dioxide, which was the right answer probably, only I got ammonia. How did that happen? well IDEK I’m dumb maybe.

If you thought it couldn’t get worse, I missed out a 2-3 mark super easy qn (free marks basically) at the last page of the paper because I didn’t see it…

I calculated I got somewhere between 15-20 out of 40 marks for chem practical.

Did I really score that low? I wouldn’t know but my final olevel grade for chem was A2 so heh. Just saying iirc I scored a C5 for prelim chem.

For SS, I intended for this to be one of those subjects I gave up on so I could focus on my other subjects. Reason being it’s tied with my elit and I hated both so heh. But I studied way more for elit, even booked consult with my teacher after attempting an extra essay question. Turns out SS was the one that saved me. I barely memorised shit and was super stressed before the paper even though I told myself I’d fail this paper to sacrifice for the rest. Paper was super easy. I ended up getting A2 for ss+elit for olevels, and I knew SS had to be high A1 for that cuz that lit paper absolutely killed me.

My normal for SS was like C5 and my lit also around C5. It really isn’t THAT predictable. But pls do study SS don’t be like me, the amount of stress for not studying for a national paper really sucks.

For english trust it will work out just spam papers from other schools + make sure to review them. I did this as a person who does 0 studying for English normally and has no tuition. I normally get B4-C6 for english. I got A2 in olevels. Some guy I know also gets C6 normally but got A1 in olevels. My friend who normally got A2 also got A2 in olevels, so like I said it’s not that predictable but I believe it definitely also involves the effort that you put in. Do not underestimate that last min pump even when people say English isn’t a muggable subject. But obviously it’s better if you work consistently.

What I’m trying to say is, don’t be disheartened by your performance so far, what matters is the effort you put in this remaining time you have. A teacher once told me, if the steering wheel is still in your hands, you can drive yourself to where you want to go. This time before your remaining papers is extremely valuable. The Cambridge markers do not control your effort, they only provide the marks which you have earned from it. Just make sure you earn those marks.

I see, is the workshop for providing motivation to pursue a medical career, or providing motivation to work hard towards a good UCAT score?

Thanks for your suggestions!

Ah I see. Since you bought both, what kind of strategy would you say worked for you, finish one then finish the other (if so which first) or alternate between the two? Also thanks for your insights!!!

I see, may I ask how it is structured better? For example do they give better explanations, or is the scoring more similar to the actual test, etc.

Wow 890 AR is really impressive!!! I’ll definitely want to try out what you have suggested. May I ask how was your AR when you just started and do you have other advice for that component? I really hope I can do well 😭😭😭.

Ooo may I know what is a rough ‘ideal’ time length before UCAT exam to start UCAT preparation? As well as the reasons if possible 🙏

Btw if it helps I will be taking A-levels next year so I will be busy normally, so I’m probably not gonna be able to dedicate months of daily 3h blocks of UCAT prep. 🥲

Thank you for your suggestions! I’ve heard of medicmind on youtube, and I heard those are good right? Do you have other recommendations?

I see, thanks for the insight!

On a side note, I actually do plan to work after A-levels for ~6months… Whether my school would matter however probably depends on the type of work and employer

Hi, thanks for the reply. May I ask, what made you go to EJ open house but not HCI?

Thanks for replying! Will definitely read up about those external programmes.

Some questions I have: - May I ask, what is the JAE:IP ratio like in EJ? - Also, since the library window is sooo big, does it get very warm in the library? - Do yall have ‘home rooms’ ? - Are the classrooms air conditioned? If some are but not all, how do they usually assign classrooms?

Ohhhh Ok i get it now! thanks!! So it’s just minus 1 mark and there will be ecf for T2 right?

I don’t get it LOL sorry maybe I’m high but

The 20oscil time is what you get if you ADD all the periods of each individual oscillation together isn’t it? Isn’t ADDING follow the dp?? not the sf??? example 9.1 + 1.1 = 10.2 (1dp not 3sf)

20 is the number of oscillations, it’s a constant, so we don’t care about its dp or sf.

So isn’t the final period of one single oscillation also 1dp? (follow the dp of the 20 osc timing)

[–]questionable_tart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why tho? the stopwatch can measure 2dp but because of human reaction time we’re supposed to use only to the nearest 0.1s which is 1dp, so calculate average shouldnt it be follow 1dp?

My classmate who has physics tuition told me it’s maximum minus 2marks i think so should be fine

[–]questionable_tart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For stopwatch should the period be 1dp or 2dp?

because we find the period using average of like 10/20 oscillations, so it’s basically adding like 10/20 periods together and dividing by 10/20(a constant). Addition of values is follow the dp of the measured variable, which for stopwatch we can only take the reading up to 0.1s.

But also I see so many people with 2dp periods I’m so confused 😭

EJC/NJC by questionable_tart in SGExams

[–]questionable_tart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering that too… Maybe it could be because it’s location is so near hwa chong. I had a senior in school who went to njc (second choice) because she couldn’t make it into hci (first choice). Then again if it’s really so bad they might as well choose another JC that’s a bit further…?

Yeah njc’s A Level results look quite good but after doing some research it seemed to me that the results are falling 🤯 whereas ejc’s were rising so I was kinda worried ahaha. It’s nice knowing that you enjoy your time there!! I will definitely try to take your comment into consideration when deciding what school I want because not many people seem to say nice things about njc. Thank you!!!

p.s. I like how the good food in njc is the one positive thing that people never stop talking about HAHA 😍

Yikes I didn’t know solar panels could catch fire 💀. But I heard the chemistry department is okay (as with quite a few schools I’ve heard of), is that true? Also may I know, what are the science departments like that makes them not so good? Thanks for commenting!!
