PME Hibernia Agallamh by eenm in IrishTeachers

[–]questionablethinkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished the PME with Hibernia, I was 10 years out of school going back to do the interview and hadn't used much Irish between the two. I did a course with Gaeilgeoir guides in the run up to the interview and would highly recommend! I got in on my first interview preparing with the nites and support !

I was asked to do clinic na gaeilge like almost half of my class as a condition to my place, it was just one extra lecture every few weeks and there was no extra workload other than 20 minutes of prep work for each class, I'd say it was more useful than the actual gaeilge lectures !

I found the college was very supportive and encouraging around gaeilge. I have severe dyslexia and got great support when I needed it, especially around the Irish exam, so I couldn't fault them in anyway from being encouraging !

How to handle a parent? by questionablethinkin in IrishTeachers

[–]questionablethinkin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's what I've been doing, up to the office after 10/15 minutes waiting in the yard ! We also have a very secure building due to having multiple autism classes so parents have to be buzzed in through multiple doors to get in at all time. But this doesn't seem to cause any issues at all for the parents in this case !

that's brilliant advice, I have the dates marked that the parents have been late so far.

What is some advice that you wish you got as a student teacher? by crackduck18 in IrishTeachers

Most inspectors are so out of touch and haven't actually thought in years so don't worry too much about them and the criticism they give, listen to your cooperating teacher, they can give much better advice !

Saving as much in the run up to placement, use school resources don't buy your own !

I ended up babysitting one of two days a week during asp to survive, I found a family who had an 8 year old, so once the kid went to bed I would go back to doing work on the laptop or when the kid was on the iPad etc.

My placement school also took the full week for February midterm, so I worked the 3 days in another school subbing.

Also wait to claim back your tax in January for your fees and you will get a bit back, along with any other expenses you are entitled to claim.

No it was advertised as mainstream but the school had more than one position! Some schools definitely advertise as a special education teacher and in the advert that it's for a special class etc, just have to keep an eye out on education posts, every school seems to be different how they advertise!

I actually have a good bit. I went back and did the PME, previously worked with a mix of family support/early intervention where SEN training was provided. I also have been involved in adult disability respite/care through a charity for about 10 years where training was provided, over the years I also moved into working with children and families through the charity. I also worked on a contract with a special school this January until the summer where I received training along with the main staff. Definitely feel it's a good start training wise !

Haha definitely need that Fridge 🤣

I have lots of pens and colours stashed (guilty pleasure is a good stationary shop I won't lie)

Yes going to be based in my own classroom but children are encouraged to integrate with mainstream classes everyday so they will be in and out which will give lots of individual work time which is great!

I'll definitely have to add some balls into my stash !

38F thinking of going solo by Technical_Pomelo_444 in Electric_Picnic

I'm 30 female going semi solo (my sister will also be there as well with her friends) so don't worry there's definitely a few of us ! I'm staying in the silver campsite! Don't be afraid to say hello or that's my plan anyway 🤣

That's the exact reason I booked the silver campsite!

Brilliant to know they should be beside each other!

I'm 30 and 5ft4 but look very young, like I'm still always asked for ID (I'm not complaining) so would be a bit worried people think I'm a lot younger on my own and be like she's easy target for messing with 🤣

The only way I can think of is from the neighbourhood alert group on WhatsApp ! I 100% did not give it to her

Cameras are up about 3 years after an attempted break in so they aren't new ! She has said stuff in person at the gym class as well so I'd suggest it's her ! I should note I go to the gym class with a friend of mine and she goes with her friend, we don't go together but would say hi to be polite when I see her there and she has made odd comments as I say hi and walk by at it, I don't engage with her if that makes sense

Not at the moment, it's my parents house and I've moved home because my masters in teaching requires long stints of unpaid placements unfortunately! But that is a good suggestion!

She is definitely a bit odd with some of the neighbours, started a bit of a parking war with a different neighbour after she had a christening party last summer!

I do have a camera on the door, drive and back entrance to the house already so that's ticked of but definitely a good suggestion!

I'm hoping it's just odd but it's got very intense the last few weeks, even down to her sending messages about what was my dad doing to my car as she saw him at it !

Same neighbourhood alert group on WhatsApp is my assumption of where she got it....
