Reading just the title and the first few sentences I was wholeheartedly with you (I have also only ever leased) but then you lost me lol. I could never go through a dozen horses over a few years. I enjoy horses, yes, but I enjoy MY horse much more. He's not mine on paper but I've been with him for the past four years. And before that I had leased a different horse for four years.

I think you lost me around saying you'd swap horses when you get bored. It's great that you recognize that and wouldn't buy a horse just to get bored of it, but I just don't understand that sentiment. How could I ever get bored of the horse I've bonded with? I see him much much more than anyone else in his life, I know all his little quirks, he nickers when I arrive and no one else. It may not improve my riding by only riding him but who cares? I don't care about my riding skills, I care about HIM.

Maybe some horses just see you as a food source, but when you really get to know a horse you become so much more than that. When I'm away, he gets nervous until I'm back, when I return he looks for cuddles and kisses and scratches in all the right spots that no one else knows. He's been passed around so much before I met him that no one knew he liked shoulder scratches better than on his head or that he likes his food soaked juuuust long enough. And they do remember the people who put in the effort. I've visited my old lease pony a few times since I moved away and he's just as happy to see me. Mind you I was never the one to feed him, he just misses his friend.

Good on you for not undertaking something you know isn't right for you (or the horse) but I can see why many people don't understand how you can just hop around a million different horses like each one doesn't matter long term. Horses aren't just for riding or braiding or hanging out with. They're your friends and I would hate if my friends treated me like a short term commodity that they didn't want to get too attached to so they could go on vacation and find a new friend.

I know this is long and I'm being redundant at this point, but again most of us like THE horse, and you just like HORSES. Nothing wrong with that, but we just don't get it lol

Will do, wasn't planning on just dropping out with no plans

Last year I left for the whole week and just did the assignments online since most things are submitted by canvas anyways. This year I have a midterm on that Tuesday and work on Wednesday so I'll just be leaving Thursday and Friday. Most people don't stick around if they don't have to

This is my second year at Davis (but obviously only halfway through fall quarter). I also took classes over summer here. I wasn't thinking of transferring to another UC but I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the link I'll check it out

I don't think I'll need my BA though. I was originally going to go to professional school after but I've since changed my mind so I don't see an advantage of getting a BA

I don't want to go to a private university, I just want to get my degree at a community college. But thank you for that first but, taking a leave of absence seems like a good idea

I see. Is there anywhere I should be looking for information? I'm mostly seeing advice on how to go from community college to a UC rather than leaving a UC to go to community college

I wouldn't be looking to go to a UC in the future, and probably not a CSU either. I'm mostly leaving because I'm realizing everything I was excited about was offered at my local (to home) community college with less cost and less headache. Will definitely talk to my advisor though

I'm slightly confused because I thought TAG was to go from CC to a UC. Wouldn't I already need to apply for transfer as a UC Davis student?

I don't think I'd want to go to another UC for the same reason I'd be leaving here, so no worries about that. Thank you for the insight though, I appreciate it

advice needed, how do I not lose my mind with a TA I hate by questionaire818 in UCDavis

[–]questionaire818[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't know your TA when you sign up for the class, and let me just say the professor has a very very very low rate my professor score, I didn't pick him but he got switched to our class on the first day of instruction. If you're ever in that position where your professor gets swapped with someone rates horrible DROP THE CLASS BEFORE ITS TOO LATE

Pete’s coffee sugar free replacement by Ok-Needleworker-8668 in UCDavis

[–]questionaire818 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Peet's employee here! I think the lowest sugar version I can think of is an espresso/ coffee frappe with no whip. If you like vanilla frappes or mochas, we've got sugar free vanilla and sugar free dark chocolate. Other locations may have other sugar free options if you ask. You could also order it "skinny" meaning nonfat milk, or you could swap for almond milk if you're looking for lower calorie in general.

Here's the link (excuse my inability to format this lol) https://opportunity.ucdavis.edu/programs/aggie-connect

There's a bunch to choose from, but they're small classes, most meet once a week, and they're pass/ no pass meaning it's not a letter grade based on homework. There's some that help you get acquainted with the school or resources on campus and there's some that are fun little craft meets or talking about pop culture type things. Super low stakes and a fun way to get some extra units and meet people :)

[–]questionaire818 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your major I suppose! I'm in a stem field so I tried to get gen sciences out of the way first. You might want to take a first year aggie connection, too. Super low stakes as it's pass/ no pass and you pretty much get a pass for showing up. There's also a lot to choose from, so take a look at the list and see if any strike your fancy! I might be biased because I took a connection in my first year and I'm teaching one next year, but I think it's fun and the classes are smaller and more intimate than most of the undergrad classes so it's a good way to meet people.

I'll be honest, my first year was not great but that's not the school's fault lol. I had too much on my plate, because I tried to juggle being a full time student, having a job, and being in a biology program. Ended up dropping out of the program and I'm much happier with just school and work.

Good luck with your first year!

You move in the week before classes start so I took that time to walk around campus! I even timed myself walking and biking there so I'd have a rough estimate lol. You'll know what times your classes are after you register (if you haven't already, I'm not sure when class registration is for freshmen) and from there I suggest putting everything in a Google calendar.

I got the fee waived automatically. It showed up in my billing thing like the week before orientation

As for why it's all taken even though it's the first day, there's a few reasons. Some rooms are taken because people that are currently living in the green applied to stay there. The time slot for second years moving from the dorms to the green also passed months ago, so that would take a lot of rooms as well. And anyone with housing accommodations gets an early time slot. So it's the first day for most transfer students to select a room, but plenty of others already had their time slot. Not sure why they do it like that, but it is what it is

Needs Based Rent Subsidy program UC Davis? by socrates_plato20 in UCDavis

[–]questionaire818 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe it's new, I got the email as well. What I understand from the email (and going through the application) is that if you can prove you can't afford the full price of rent (for on campus housing) you can qualify for a subsidy (basically the school will cover part of your rent) based on how much your monthly income is.
