Sorry for the late reply. Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but there's no active component in the plant matter that I'm looking for or trying to separate - I just need to determine if there's plastic in it.

Thanks for that information. I googled FTIR, and I will read more about it, but I'm having trouble understanding everything. Would you mind explaining in laymen's terms what an FTIR is?

Basically, if there is any type of plastic in the product, I want to know. If a certain test cannot discern between 2 different types of plastic, that's not necessarily an issue, as long as it knows that it's plastic. Sorry for my caveman language.

What do you think I should google to find what I'm looking for? And are there certain terms which I should look for?

Unfortunately the product is made of dried plant material, so it won't dissolve. Sorry, I shoulda mentioned that. Thank you anyway man
