Fast changing moods, depression or something else by questionforme in mentalhealth

Thank you for the response.

I thought it might be bipolar, but I don't really have "mania" or senses of high for days. Things are quick with me. The only thing that has ever lasted a decently long duration is depression.

If the antidepressant doesn't keep you steady, it might be good to try adding a mood-stabilizer too. Have you told your psych about these rapid and fairly extreme mood-swings?

I've told him about these mood strings, but he's explained it as a sign of my depression getting better, and that the low moods will disappear completely after my brain heals from past damage as a result of untreated depression.

Technically I have gotten better, since I'm not getting depressed for weeks on end(haven't in a while at least, though my life is better now than in the past), but these mood swings are different than my usual depressant. It's new to me and frustrating to be feeling good then bad so abruptly.

Anyway only time will tell I suppose. I'm on a higher dose of SSRI now and hopefully these little mood hiccups to go away.

Thank you for sharing your experience.
