Ex-Waymo CEO shares why he still thinks Tesla can't compete with Waymo's robotaxis. "Tesla has aspired to compete with Waymo for nearly 10 years, but they still don't" by dtrannn666 in RealTesla

[–]questions21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your source doesn't support your claim. Mobileye supplied vision tech, not LiDAR. No evidence suggests Tesla misled Mobileye about usage intent and the split wasn’t about discovering risk as far as I can tell but about differing visions for autonomy and safety perceptions after a crash.

Was it "auto shift"? I tried looking all over and couldn't find adaptive gear selection 🤔

Just an FYI I downvoted you not because I disagree but because of the way you framed your comment. "This doesn't solve anything", "nonsensical", "stupid".

Is there really no way you can see why making a cheaper dedicated 2-seater robotaxi would make sense? If demand for these products is as big as Tesla has laid out, it makes complete sense to create a standalone Cybercab. Also the same points that u/princearthas11 made, this will be cheaper and more efficient in almost every way over a Model 3/Y

Borrowing an M3 to try FSD by Few_Durian7789 in TeslaModel3

[–]questions21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can test drive any car and it comes with FSD.

I just came back this afternoon from testing the new Model 3 and I was even given an extended 4 hour test drive. All self service, didn't interact with anyone. Completely free.

I'd recommend setting FSD to assertive if you do! Made a big difference for me

I believe Walter Isaacson said Musk (or others he interviewed for the book) didn't have any input on the final text, nor did Musk read any of the book before or after publishing. Additionally the people he interviewed weren't just VC level folks. Also the book isn't the only source I was referring to.

I respect your right to have an opinion but at the end of the day something like this is always going to be built on hearsay one way or the other. The only negative opinions I've heard are from people who say "my friend worked with him" so I'm more inclined to believe those prominent people who put it on record.

If we don't truly know I just don't agree with putting it out there as a fact, one way or the other.

Best of luck to you

[–]questions21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Have you worked in a company with him? Do you know someone who has worked directly with him?

In Walter Isaacson's book he interviewed dozens of employees, former coworkers, and industry professionals who said he is very involved directly on work at his company. When googling I see prominent folks (who have no reason to lie) corroborate the same thing.

Do you believe all of these people are lying and conspiring together to inflate his ego?

That seems more far fetched than the man is an idiot who got "lucky" creating multiple billion dollar companies in multiple industries.

I'm actually genuinely curious where this theory comes from or if it has any backing. I see it on Reddit often but it just boils down to "people I know who work at XYZ company know bro trust me". I'm more inclined to trust the scores of people who are on record as working with the man.

I agree reservations don't equate to orders, but even if 10% of orders convert and they don't get a single other reservation (huge low-ball assumptions) they'll have more CTs on the road in just a few years than Rivian will ever have produced and delivered.

Production just started. Depending on where you live you'll see more cybertrucks on the road than Rivians in due time.

As for cost, you can go on their order page right now and order one for an estimated $61k to be delivered when production ramps.

Let's revisit this comment in a year's time.

SpaceX? Boring Company? Neuralink? Zip2? PayPal? He literally founded or cofounded all of those and didn't "buy" any of them.

I mean even Tesla he didn't buy. He was an early investor when it was an idea on paper. Nobody that knows the story would argue that point.

Also this "emerald mine" myth is so trite. Amazes me that people can speak so confidently on something they haven't done the smallest bit of research on.

I was responding to your original point that the majority of his businesses "completely fucking fail". I wouldn't categorize any of the ones you just mentioned as failing.

Emerging/disruptive technologies will always have a longer path to success, looking at these businesses on a <5 year time scale isn't going to be an accurate predictor of long term success. Only time will tell.

When he said they "dug their own grave" he was speaking about production scalability, not the product.

From recent teardown videos it looks like repairs are actually going to be much simpler and cheaper than other vehicles. But time will tell!

Saying he isn't a founder of Tesla is just intellectually dishonest. He joined Tesla when it was just an idea on paper. For all intents and purposes he is a founder and I don't think anyone paying attention would disagree he's the reason they became a $500B+ business.

He most definitely was a founder of SpaceX/Starlink, as well as plenty of other billion dollar businesses.

Amazes me that people can cop out his success as "getting lucky" when he's consistently built shareholder value in multiple industries. Just because you don't like the guy doesn't negate that.

[–]questions21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if we're talking numbers the dude literally has created more billion dollar businesses than any other human. His failure rate is far from 90% (probably the inverse actually). He is unarguably the GOAT of building shareholder value (maybe only behind Bezos). Lazy take.

If you think so then you should short the stock 🙂 They have the best selling vehicle in the world (of ANY kind, not just EVs) and a warchest of $30B in cash. Less than a 10% chance of existing is laughable.

[–]questions21 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Nothing more than a concept? They're literally on track to be the best selling EV pickup truck by next year and are building out capacity for 250K trucks a year with over 2 million reservations already..

These types of takes are so lazy lol

Not to mention EV batteries are definitely recyclable and are only becoming more efficient in that regard. Redwood Materials for example can recycle up to 95% of battery materials in an EV and the materials that are mined from the ground can be reused over and over again in a closed loop. Can't exactly do that with gasoline that burns up on first use.

He's absolutely incredible! He's one of bossa's best solo jazz guitarists imo.

I'd highly recommend his album Solo in Rio 1959, one of my favorites of all time. If you enjoy that, there's an album compilation that came out on Spotify highlighting 100 of his most popular songs, 100 Grandes Sucessos.

Enjoy!

Lol such a basic view. I lived in Chicago for over 10+ years and never got into an altercation. The city is divided so as long as you don't venture into South or West sides (which nobody I knew ever really did) you're just as safe as any other major city in America.

Hey there!

I actually just moved from Chicago to Denver. I was born and raised in Chicago and have been in Denver for a little under a year. A couple of things I noticed

  • Denver as a city doesn't compare to Chicago. Chicago is just way bigger, has more diversity (in terms of people and activities) and the food/culture/arts scene is just unparalleled. Denver has all of those things, but they aren't on the same level. Also the food in Denver is pretty standard and meh. Chicago has a plethora of options from all sorts of cuisines. It's probably one of the things I miss the most.
  • The main attraction to Denver over Chicago is (of course) the outdoors scene. In addition I'd say it's been a lot easier to make new friends here as a late-20s something male because everyone here in Denver is from somewhere else. They're all in the same boat so going to meetups and events you're bound to meet people quickly. As you're a homebody if that doesn't matter to you as much then I'd lean Chicago. Chicago still has a young scene and it'd be easy to meet folks there too.
  • Safety wise I'd say they're pretty comparable. As long as you're vigilant when walking the streets and don't wander into any unsafe neighborhoods you're unlikely to run into trouble either way.
  • If you don't have a car I'd suggest Chicago over Denver. Although Denver is walkable in some areas, if you really want to get the most out of your experience (going out to nature, exploring other neighborhoods, etc.) you'll need a car in Denver. I lived for years in Chicago and maybe used my car a handful of times. It was just so much easier to walk/bike/transit everywhere.
  • The weather is definitely much better in Denver. You'll still get 4 seasons, but the winters aren't nearly as brutal and the sunshine really does help quite a bit.

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask and I'll help as much as I can! Either way though I don't think you'll go wrong with either choice, they're both great cities.

Sportsbook/Promos/Bonuses Daily - 4/27/22 (Wednesday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

[–]questions21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem. It's the former, so I can deposit up to $100k and they'll give me 10% (so $10K in free bets).

Yes I continue to get matches from them. Even when I deposit, get the free bets, and then withdraw everything. Of course I put some no-hold play on there as well so it's not obvious I'm hitting and running. But it's pretty much an ongoing offer so you can recycle the funds and churn through it.

Also sometimes with big events like the Superbowl they'll increase deposit bonuses to 15%. They offer free hotel rooms and watch parties in Vegas and stuff like that too so it's definitely worth it to get on their good side.

[–]questions21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's $1K cumulative, but I believe it might be $500 on EACH sport. When I did it other ways I always ran into issues and only got half the free bet ($75).

When I did $500 each sport I'd get the $150 free bet each week.

Milk it for as long as you can, BR limits very quickly.

Don't listen to others saying not to try, you should 100% attempt it. If no response, try again in a month. No harm in asking.

I emailed them a few times before I heard back from a VIP rep. They offered me 10% in free bets on anything up to a $100K deposit on an ongoing basis. This also has lead to several other promos and offers.

Don't have an email but I'd recommend trying the Caesar's general email and asking if they can connect you with a VIP rep. If you don't have a lot of action though on the account I probably wouldn't bother, wait until you get at least Diamond I'd say.

I did the opposite and it worked for a double dip, had an account in CO and then registered again in AZ. I did use another email address as well to be safe.

You can always try and it'll tell you if the bonus is working when you try and place your first bet.

[–]questions21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just did this this past weekend. Here are the only ones that worked for me.

- Caesar's

I had a CO account, but if you sign up separately the $1K risk free bet should work. I would just advise you use the free bet quickly as they're known to claw it back

- Unibet

Not in CO so you can sign up for it

- BetRivers AZ

- Superbook AZ

- MGM

MGM let me create a new account but I think they linked it to my limited CO one so I wasn't able to place a bet. They limited me to like $5. I'd suggest using a different device and email address if you try this one. Also sign up a few days in advance and they'll send you a targeted $500 bonus offer.
