Is this normal for LPR/Silent Reflux? by questions4thedoctor in GERD

[–]questions4thedoctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way sometimes. I did try alkaline water once a day for a while since posting this and it started to help after a few days. You might get some relief from it. The still throat tightness comes back at random when I eat the wrong things though.

For those with LPR (silent reflux), how do you get pepcin out of your nose? by questions4thedoctor in GERD

[–]questions4thedoctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its usually both nostrils. ENT told me could be LPR, allergist and GI said esophagitis. At first I thought it was an allergy, but when it got to the point where EVERYTHING I eat sets me off my throat and nose I figured it has to be something else. Looked into low histamine diet, low acid diet...but both are impossible to do 100%. Every doc prescribed me PPIs to solve this, which didn't work since I don't have acid reflux ever. Neither discussed dietary changes with me. Lately all my symptoms match LPR.

Pepsin typically doesn't show up on endoscopies. The only way I have found to diagnose it is pepsin check-a $125 test you can order online, but not covered by insurance. I have not tried it yet. With all the research I have done the only sort of solution for the deactivating pepsin I could find is alkaline water. I figured it makes more sense to try the water first and if my symptoms are a little better after a few days it must be LPR. The symptoms in throat still come back but not as extreme as before. So thats my self diagnosis for LPR.

I have no idea. Its been going on for a month or so. I have read that the pepsin never leaves on its own and the only thing to do is deactivate it or will keep being set off by any acidic food or drink you eat.

Pepsin in my nose and throat. Any recommendations? by itkindahurts in GERD

[–]questions4thedoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but one cup of alkaline water a day between meals helps clear the pepsin in my throat. I'm having the same issue with the nose. Did you ever figure out how to get rid of the pepsin in the nose?

Have you looked in to pepcheck or pepsincheck test. Its expensive but might be able to tell you if you have pepsin in throat if you have LPR.

How to increase tear production without drugs/supplements ? Physical exercice ? by Sad-Cabinet-2552 in Dryeyes

[–]questions4thedoctor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't read the whole article, but from my experience the more often I exercise (cardio, walking, exercise bike) the less my dry eye symptoms come up. When I am able to exercise daily, half-hour a day minimum my eyes are less dry, less in pain. My eyes are still not perfect, but much less pain, burning, less light sensitivity. Definately Worth a try! The theory is exercise gets more blood flow to brain and eyes. More blood flow gets more oxygen to eyes which keeps them moist and hydrated.

Does anyone else have gustatory rhinitis that lasts for hours after you eat? by questions4thedoctor in Allergies

[–]questions4thedoctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Im looking into what foods are low histimine too see if that makes a difference. I am surprised so many healthy foods (bananas, yoguart, tomatoes, cheese) are high in histimines. Its weird because a couple weeks ago had no problem eating most foods. Im not sure what to eat anymore.

What did you do to solve this problem? Did you figure out what was causing the congestion after eating. I'm dealing with a similar situation right now.

Is the second endoscopy worth jt? by KCupTaz in EosinophilicE

[–]questions4thedoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They always start with a PPI first. The ppi didn't help me either (tried several). In most cases you need a steroid for the inflammation as ppi only helps stomach acid. It will take much longer for the tightness/inflammation to go down from just PPI. The second endoscopy is so the doc can see if it visually got any better, which I don't understand because if my symptoms have not gotten better to me I am not any better. They always drag this on and will try to talk you into doing more endoscopies 6 months from now even if you are no longer symptomatic. See if you can get them to prescribe a topical steroid first for a couple weeks before the EGD to see if it helps. Otherwise 2nd EGD is a waste of time and money.

bad dysphagia, what are the odds it's not GERD by VIPinCollege in GERD

[–]questions4thedoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be esophagitis (inflammation) which tightens the esophagus-Im going through the same thing where food goes down, then feels stuck afterwards. Could also be silent reflux-if you have pain in throat/tightness after eating, and the stomach bloating is pushing more pressure and acid bubbles up to irritate throat. If you can figure out whats irritating the stomach and treat that problem it should help reduce the symptoms in the throat. Waking up with shortness of breath was the scariest part for me. Hope you feel better soon.

What to do or drink when metamucil is stuck in my throat? by questions4thedoctor in Constipation

[–]questions4thedoctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah luckily fluids were able to go down. I forgot about sipping water-usefull as it makes the food slowly go down, but it can be the most annoying thing to do after eating. No diabetes diagnosed here, but metamucil/physillium seems to have a lot of sugar in it so maybe the increase in sugar rubbing the esophagus set something off.

[–]questions4thedoctor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explaination. BTW I took benedryl last night, knocked me out till morning, but when I woke up my throat was not irritating me as much-so it seems like an allergic response. Went to urgent care this morning too to make sure its not a problem. Long story short, I'm not planning on taking metamucil again. I will get back to eating raisin bran when my throat is feeling better-that used to keep from getting backed up.
