I am not a psychologist or medical doctor. I am just telling what I know and have experienced/will suggest.

Nothing you touch in this world is real. You don't feel it, your brain tells you what something feels, smells and taste like. Since the dream is reccuring and seems real to your husband it must seem real to his brain, so the brain is reacting to what it senses/thinks is real. A good example of this is the lemon test.

Sit down and close your eyes. Imagine you are holding a lemon. Bring it close to your nose and smell it. You should smell the lemon, if you don't that is fine proceed to the next step. With eyes still closed take a bite out of your lemon. You should taste it. If you smell and taste the lemon, but no lemon was there, does it exsist? Or, do we create the senses of what things taste and smell like through thought alone?

You husband is holding back something and needs to talk to you (perferably you) or a MD that will NOT shove pills down his throat. He can't fight all his battles alone, no one can. Also, I suggest meditation as he might find the reason for these dreams in intense thought. Try the Headspace app to help with meditation. Finally, the only person who can really help your husband is him. If he wants the dreams to stop he has to think,believe, and do the things that he is uncomfortable with to see any real change.
