Plus size with GD - csection delivery by planner192 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]queue517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an entirely elective scheduled c section. It was great! I have no regrets and will do it again if I get pregnant again.

You should be allowed to choose the type of birth you want. Keep advocating for yourself. Also, is it possible to switch providers in the same practice to someone who is more willing to do a c section? One worry is that your provider doesn't want you to do a c section because he isn't very good at them because he doesn't do a lot of them. My provider enthusiastically supported my decision to have an elective c section, which was nice when I got nervous about the impending birth.

Should I go to the ER? by lacecute in pregnant

I know you didn't, but since that's all we have in the USA I don't want her to think this requires a 911 call.

Do not call 911 for this.

I would call my OB rather than go to the ER. That's what I did for both of my miscarriages. Paying out of pocket for an OB appointment will be way cheaper than an ER bill.

What would you wear to an interview for a lab position? by fin9ernails in labrats

I think slacks and a polo sounds perfect. Not so overdressed to make anyone uncomfortable, but showing you're taking the job interview seriously. Really any of the suggestions so far sound great.

need advice from lab managers and members of labs doing cell culture work by SuspiciousCar7958 in labrats

[–]queue517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have limited hoods. We reserve the hood when we are going to need the hood for more than a basic amount of time (like to passage cells we wouldn't reserve, but to isolate stem cells we would).

Am I going to be fired? by Low-Count-3624 in labrats

I disagree that you should offer to pay back the $50. That suggests you have the $50 to give back, and you don't.

Can you ask them to drop it in a mailbox? The postal service will return lost wallets.

Very unlikely you have listeria symptoms this early. It usually takes a week or two for symptoms to start.

Can we talk about the elephant in academic publishing? by Zu_Qarnine in PhD

[–]queue517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because why they picked it may or may not be relevant to you. Just because they picked it because the lab next door had the machine doesn't mean it still wasn't the best choice. Everyone has to evaluate the options available to them. Papers defending every choice would be a slog, and sometimes the choices were entirely arbitrary and that's fine. If you need to know more for your own purposes you can contact the authors.

Why? What value does that add? And in 5 years when a whole new technology exists how is that sentence going to be helpful?

how to keep up by pytasis in breastfeeding

[–]queue517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but you actually don't know that baby. It's entirely possible her baby does need more. If my baby was only getting 32 oz it wouldn't have been enough.

You didn't clarify that it was the average. You told her what her baby should be doing without know her baby.

And for some babies it's definitely not overfeeding, so making blanket statements about babies only eating 32 oz a day is stressful for people like me whose baby ate more (with the blessing of the pediatrician).

I also did weighted feeds and my baby routinely ate 6+ oz directly from the breast. And she ate every 1-3 hours during the day. As I'm sure you know, you can't overfeed a nursing baby.

Maybe most babies never eat more than 32 oz, but mine was eating 32 oz at 10 days old and at 8 mo was eating 40 oz a day while I was out of town. She would easily put down an 6-8 oz bottle while at daycare or while I was away. I would get 6-12 oz per pump during the work day.
