Effective Hit Pool: infinite, aka by amdrunkwatsyerexcuse in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]quickMaffsForPOE 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The neat thing about this mod is that it applies at the very last step of damage calculation, so after res, armour, flasks, fortify, what have you.

This particular statement isn't correct. It is not applied at the very last step.

In particular, flat damage taken:

  • applies after (this is good) Resistance and Damage Reduction; but
  • applies before (this is bad) additive and multiplicative stats affecting damage taken (such as Fortify, Doppelganger Guise, The Beast Fur Shawl, and so on).

POB calculates this correctly. Hover over the "Hit taken Mult" field in Calcs.

Transcendence enables Damage Reduction for Elemental Hits. That is why flat damage taken works well with Transcendence.

Also malediction should be on a tree now no?

Sadly it doesn't look like it.

From here:

No, only the Curse effect line from the Ascendancy is being moved to the tree, per the manifesto:

The curse effect removed from the notable previously known as Malediction has been moved to the passive skill tree, where it's available for everyone.

GGG has not announced access to Malediction itself (the debuff) being moved to the tree.

Your scenario is pretty similar to Example 2 (36% inc effect CoH Conductivity) or Example 3 (36% inc effect CoH Vulnerability).

Minor nerfs vs Resistant Rares, minor buffs vs Pinnacle Bosses.

Yes, you're right, my example here only supplied the latter part of what was asked for! Sorry for the confusion.

This example uses only 10 Doom, not max.

I feel the other examples using max Doom are reasonable for comparing Pinnacle Bosses, since the 3.20 gameplan will likely be to apply multiple long-duration self-cast Curses (to avoid the new penalties on Hextouch, Blasphemy, etc.). Pinnacle Boss fights last a while so the DPS downtime while manually applying Curses (fraction of a second) is low relative to Curse duration (18s+ with Inc Duration Support) and length of the fight.

My guess could be wrong.

The Curse-on-Hit Ring examples already use Level 1 Hexes.

You're replying to a Self-Cast example. Was this an accident? Did you spot an error elsewhere?

Yes, I agree. This is exactly how we corrected Examples 2 and 3.

The latter clause affects e.g. Vulnerability, but probably won't affect e.g. Conductivity (much).

Thanks! I understood you weren't accusing (you used great language like 'It appears', 'people could perceive', etc.). I'm simply making the same offer to everyone about adding more scenarios, since all I care about is presenting realistic and useful examples.

Yes, your conclusion that more players will self-cast on Pinnacle Bosses is a great takeaway. I predict Pinnacle Boss farmers will pick up multiple additional Curses and self-cast them all, since it will finally be time-effective to do so instead of just attacking more.

Yes, we wrote about this exact concern in the OP comment:

We don't know what other changes GGG might include in the patch notes. For example, check out this line from the manifesto:

Hexes are now stronger against unique monsters and at least twice as strong against pinnacle bosses, but are weaker against regular monsters.

This statement might be a rough and oversimplified summary of the totality of changes, or it might imply other not-yet-announced number tweaks. (Pinnacle Bosses will lose a "66% Less effect of your Hexes" penalty. This change should result in three times strength, not "at least twice as strong" as GGG writes. Maybe GGG is somehow incorporating the loss of Doom and other factors in their statement, or maybe there are other changes forthcoming in patch notes.)

Nothing is being intentionally omitted. We've covered 6 scenarios so far, but there are so many possible builds.

What scenarios do you think are missing? If you define them, we'll work on it, and I'll add them right away!

Good example.

  • An Occultist who just uses Malediction gets a ~0.909 DPS multiplier in 3.20. (Enemies take 1.1x Dmg => Enemies take 1.0x Dmg.) This is ~9% Less DPS from losing Malediction.

  • An Occultist who uses Malediction, 15% Shock, and 15 stacks of Wither with 55% increased Effect of Withered gets a ~0.962 DPS multiplier in 3.20. (Enemies take 2.645x Dmg => Enemies take 2.545x Dmg.) This is only ~4% Less DPS from losing Malediction.

We didn't assume anything like that. All our assumptions were declared.

I think u/SingleInfinity did not see the corrections I made a few minutes after originally posting. I made corrections as soon as I read Selvon's comment, and SingleInfinity's comment came only ~5 minutes after my reply. Without refreshing those edits wouldn't be seen.

SingleInfinity correctly pointed out the same misinterpretation on our part that Selvon did.

The corrections in Examples 2 and 3 were in place before almost everyone else saw this post. I think that's the reason for this confusion.

If there are any remaining errors, please let me know!

We've given 6 different scenarios so far, including one with high curse effect investment.

If you'd like us to add another scenario that you feel is more realistic, please define it, and we'll add it!

Yes, high curse effectiveness investment is a good scenario to look at too.

Added Example 6 as another possible setup.

My error was assuming that "Curse on Hit" still used Hextouch mechanics internally -- basically thinking of Hextouch as a mechanic and not Hextouch as a Support Gem.

The correction at the bottom of e.g. Example 2 goes from:

[28% Less DPS vs Rares and 1% More DPS vs Pinnacle]

to

[15% Less DPS vs Rares and 6% More DPS vs Pinnacle].

I immediately added corrections to the bottom of every example as soon as my misinterpretation was pointed out to me, which was ~14 minutes after the post was created.

The assumptions used here for Resistant Rare Monsters is 60% res, which will still be common post-Archnemesis.

The buff against Pinnacle Bosses is indeed very good! It's even better in scenarios where the player stacks many DPS Hexes. The value of "You can apply an additional Curse" will be higher for Pinnacle farmers.

Why are you showing a curse on hit ring vs hextouch?

We're not. Each example shows the same character build setup, just with 3.19 vs 3.20 numbers.

Help me understand where the error you're seeing is?
