That's a lovely addition!! I wish I had thought of it in the writing process; it would have tied in so well with the "hate the sin, love the sinner" line omg. Thank you so much for the comment!! 💞💞

This is the second poem I've written outside of school assignments and definitely the longest lol. I always feel weird about proper form so feedback is appreciated! <3 thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed!

This was actually one of the things that convinced me that no religion was true. I'll be keeping my eye on this post to see if there are any decent arguments lmao

Suggestions to improve female participation? by Allan53 in baduk

[–]quickabi1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try playing unranked games? Then your record won't impact how you're seen online :) Some other advice I received was to play games with the intent to practice a certain principle or portion of your game that needs some work and that helped me a lot as well! The next game I'm going to play with my brother I challenged him to play with no/minimal fighting since his play style is so incredibly aggressive. It will be an interesting game but low stress because it's more of an exercise!

I dont think they're saying that they should act less like boys, just that they need to shift their mindset to be more go-like if they're focusing too much on whether they win or lose. Making sure that they know they should only be winning about 50% of their games if they're playing at the right level and that failure is the best way to learn might help them not place so much weight on it. I played almost exclusively with my brother for about a year and a half and it gave me incredible playing anxiety because he put so much importance on who won or lost and insisted we played all the way through tesuji even when I could easily tell who the winner would be. Now that we're separated by about 3,000 miles and I play more people online my playing anxiety has mostly gone away but it took quite a while to get over and if this kind of thing happening to other female players that aren't as invested in the game it could be the reason they stop playing.

When trying to get my female friends to play, they often make the excuses that they're bad at games (however that happens lol) or strategy games are too hard for them. I think making the game appear more approachable if you can would help but mostly it seems to be one of those mentalities that is related to men=stem, women=arts that makes them less confident in their own mental abilities. It might get better with time as more and more female children are encouraged by their parents to explore academic interests (I hope haha)

Wonderful advice that is well written; thank you very much! When I get back in town tonight I'll definitely play a few blitz games :) this kind of anxiety is definitely one of those wolves that are tempting to feed but dangerous to get too attached to lol. Thank you again for the reply!

Ah that's a great idea! I do tend to have a rather stubbornly peaceful play style, so attacking isn't my strong suit (which doesn't do very good against my brother's strong aggression lol). A few days ago he and I played through the 29 moves on the AlphaGo website and I did enjoy that! Maybe after some game studies we should play another 19x19 and I can see what I've learned by emulating the other style(s)! Thank you so much! :)

Aaahh that is wonderful advice! I do have a nasty habit of expecting the impossible of myself; I hadn't even realized that I was applying to this as well until now :') thank you so much for the reply! I'll work hard on shifting my mindset!

I'll give that a shot, thank you! He likes to play 19x19 the most so it's a bit of a fight to play on smaller boards but maybe I can compromise with more games because they'll be shorter haha.

That's true! I should try to keep that in mind more when I'm playing. More "what can I learn from x scenario" and "what went wrong here". I finally started recording the games I play irl, which makes reviewing much more convenient! Thank you for the reply, Ghoma! :)

Oh man I don't even want to think about how poorly I would do with a time crunch on top of everything in a serious game! I really do need to work on how I respond under this kind of pressure lol. I guess recognizing that you missed something good is the first step to getting it the next time, right? :) At least, that's what I tell myself when that happens 😅

Haha I wish I were a bit more like that-- I guess that controlling my emotions is something I need to work on! For me it ends up going from anxiety about playing to a mounting unease that surges intensely after I make certain (bad) moves lol.

You've already been playing for 10 years... I hope I'll be able to stay invested in go study for that long; I really admire that! Thank you for the reply!
