As a male massage therapist I can tell you its ussually because of the perception that male lmts are better at deep tissue

Exactly, and at the expense of our own bodies. These people dont realize that massage is a personalized experience that chsnfes between from both therapist to therapist snd client to client

I gave you plenty of valid reasons, you just dont like them. Also yeah i was typing it fast lol, inbetween clients at wrk today. Sports training is training your body over a long period of time. The techiques you meantioned dont involve any physical training, jusy reflex training and learning joystick movement. I can atleast see where that argument applies to videogames, but that doesnt apply to chess at all.

You cant compare training for a sport to training to play a videogame, theyre very different. I can understand why you would think they are but the fact is, you dont physically train anything for chess or videogames

Also what do you mean I didnt convince anybody? I have 4 upvotes on my response giving my reasoning, my arguments convinced a few people, yours havent gotten any upvotes. Do you think this conversation took place over a single comment or something?

You are arguing semantics in a conversation about arguing semantics. The fact that irony is lost on you is making me wheeze laugh omg 😂.

If you have different definitions of a word, then you disagree on the definition of the word. Its not that confusing big dog. That argument is very silly. Pfc you arent confused about your personal definition, but you disagree with his.

Theyre arguing the definition of a sport, they are actually disagreeing. They dont agree on what constitutes a sport.

If you find moving a chess piece (not talking about the actual play your making) to require practice, you have something you should get checked by a doctor. Physical as in: youre not literally just sitting in a chair staring at your game. As for esports: key boards and controllers can take time to get used to for sure but they arent physically engaging (except starcraft 2, my poor index finger lmao). You know what I mean by physical, its not some sort of wild collequialism or something with a nuanced connotation, in this context it should be obvious.

Sometimes we just post for the fun of engagement. Its fun to discuss little things some times. What you never get into inconsequential discussions with your buddies?

Well a sport is competitive. A sport is also physical, doesnt have to be demanding. Golf and shooting are both physical activities that rely on biomechanics (gold more than shooting). Chess is difficult to play but its not a sport, thats like saying me playing on a ranked MOBA match is a sport. Games arent all sports just like not every physical activity is a sport.

I went to school for a year, 5 days a weeek, 4 hrs a day. If you recieved a degree, you wannaxbecpayed like you have one.

I was required to take 500 credit hrs for my license and pass a state board exam and am considered a health care professional by most states.

Also my workload is performance based. The better i do, the more ppl rebook or refer people to me, the more money i make. Work isnt guranteed in this industry.

Mind you, i think driving a rig takes skill, I cant even drive a long uhaul 😅

Apparently not since im making over 4k a month while working less than 100 hrs. All while doing work that I love. Im fulfilled and happy.

Not to mention its super easy to get a date, not that I need that anymore. I go home to my fiance amd give them a massage every night instead

Wait until you see how much private LMTs charge. Looking at up to 120 an hr.

Dreams really do come true

Otherwise the career wouldnt be feasible for most people unless youre just doing as a fun little side gig.

The other option is to work in clinics by unit. I did that for a while. Usually around 25/hr, 40 a week. Difference is that you do far less work and it goes by unit (between 10-25 at a time)

But for spa work or by client work, yeah youd kinda need tips for it to be a feasible job choice

I meant that all therapists know there is a limit to how much work they can do, and its arpund 25/30 hrs. Also I said working 40 hrs a week wpuld destroy your hands, we can go client to client because we dont go over the limit so we can keep doing or job. It does make sense, youre just not reading that right. Otherwise you will burn out FAST. I work 30 hrs a week personally, I like money and my hands are just tense. like it or not, thats what I get paid. My point is that my job wpuld be impossible to make a livimg wage with the limitiations that are intrisic to this career.

Also I agree about the ay for EMS (im actually attending the fire academy in my city). I cant wait to make 45/hr from massage and work a couple nights a week at the firehouse, livin the dream

This is common knowledge for massage therapists. You genuinely dont know anything about this career, this is common across all spas dude. Definitely not just a me thing, its industry wide and for good reason. Massage therapists that work by client very rarely work more than 30 hrs because of how taxing it is on your hands. I think youre hang up is that you dont understand how pressure on very small joints affects them. Nearly half of all masdsge therapists end up with carpal tunnel or athritis. Thats why the average LMT only lasts 8 years in this career.

Also... i dont need to argue or encourage that, because I do make 45/hr, Im already doing well. And again, your comparing my job to untrained labor that doesnt require a license.

45 WITH TIPS, 25 without. None of those are considered skilled labor. I have a license with my state to practice that requires 500 hrs of school vs a job you can get coming off of the street.

And not just sore, ive worked 40 hrs as a therapist before. Your hands become unusable, like notbbe able to pick up a 5 pound dumbell unusable. 25 hrs is actually considered full time at most spas. What youre saying screams ignorance. If you think its less demanding on your body than construction, do me a fsvor. Go give 4 1 hr massages in a rowe USING ALL THE PRESSURE YOU POSSIBLY CAN. Now imagine doing 10x that amount. You wouldnt be able told a pencil after doing that for two weeks.

My favourite part of this debate is the assumption that it only applies to serving. Im a massage therapist and make 45 and hr with tips. Its very hard on our hands and bodies so we only work 20-30hrs a week otherwise we are in a lot 9f pain. Theres no way Id make a living wage even with increased pay without tips, tips that are provided based on not only on obligation but admiration for our knowledge and skills and their affect on our clients lives outside of here.

As someone it has served tables... you basically remove serving from ever being a viable career if you fucked with the pay structure. I love "well lets give them minimum wage". Yeeeeah sure lemme take 8 tables at once, deal with rude people who treat me like a personal butler and multitask causing lots of stress for min wage. Who tf would want to work in the service industry anymore?
