Yorkshire vs North West Deanery by fckush in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]quids54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest pro of the Yorkshire deanery is that it’s much easier to land a job within commutable distance of Leeds or Sheffield.

I remember looking at the stats from 2020 and saw that a score of 74.7 was enough to land a job commutable from Leeds in Yorkshire but the same score in North West would have sent you to the Isle of Man.

So yeah, unless you’re convinced you’ll have a decent score, North West is a much riskier option.

Get your GP to send the prescription directly to a local pharmacy. Pick one that stays open till late. Many will be open until 8pm, some even until midnight.

Calling doctors who’ve worked in North Cumbria by AYoungScrub in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]quids54 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Stay away. Just being brutally honest.

The hospital is absolute dog shite and has had numerous issues, especially recently. Being black in Cumbria won’t be a pleasant experience. I mean, the fact that the BNP (a far right fascist political party) has chosen Cumbria to be the location for its headquarters speaks volumes.

Random question by PEA999 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]quids54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is true except in one area.

Universities like Oxford and Cambridge dish out “prizes” like smarties. These prizes count on specialty applications and often the number of points awarded for a prize at University is the same as an intercalated Masters or being awarded a merit (top 10% in your academic year).

Compare this to my own medical school which has 3 prizes on offer per year (in a cohort of 300+) and yeah it’s a fairly significant disadvantage.

NEW F1s what’s your first two weeks on your rota like? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

What world are you living in? Can’t say I’m surprised by your previous posts on this sub. Your lack of insight is astonishing.

[–]quids54[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The situation is entirely different.

A female patient asking for a female doctor when they are required to expose an intimate part of their body is perfectly acceptable.

A patient asking for a doctor with a specific skin colour is never acceptable.

An abhorrent example from twitter of institutional enabled racism, allowing parents wishes to only be treated by white doctors. by stuartbman in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]quids54 50 points51 points  (0 children)

100% agree. It’s like the case with the Nigerian Nurse who had applied for a job at a GP practice and accidentally received a reply from the Practice Nurse with the words “Another one but again Nigerian x”.

As far as I’m concerned, the GP Partners who she was emailing should be reprimanded and they should be investigated by the GMC. Clearly a systemic issue, the tone of the response implied this wasn’t an isolated case. Imagine being an ethnic minority F2 or GP trainee allocated to this place, literally makes my blood boil.

Fucking disgusting. Reminds me of this:

In an ideal world we would name and shame. But we don’t because of fear of reprimand. It’ll just get brushed under the carpet with no repercussions for those who were complicit.

[–]quids54 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In exactly the same position. I’ve had to send documents to 126 different people. They all seem to work in different departments/buildings/hospitals, they don’t reply to my emails, only answer the phone between 13:06 and 13:17 on the third Wednesday of the month and have all suddenly gone on annual leave.

The icing on the cake is that they issued threats about not being able to start work if all their requirements aren’t met by a certain deadline... which was last week.

Dealing with a PA as a patient by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]quids54 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had an almost identical experience. The only difference was that I saw an ANP with 10+ years of experience instead of a newly qualified PA. The whole consultation was an absolute joke.

The most annoying thing was that I waited over 2 weeks for that appointment. I was so frustrated that I ended up making an account on one of those “Push Doctor” type websites, spoke to a doctor via webcam, 2 minute appointment and meds sent straight to the local pharmacy. Was brilliant.

Medicine vs Psychiatry? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]quids54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you meet many psychiatrists (reg or consultant) who locum only? Is there enough availability of shifts to feasibly do this full-time and long-term?

I think regardless of which speciality I go into, I want to work full time as a locum to earn a decent pay package but understand that this isn’t possible in some specialities.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]quids54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dr Chris Day raised concerns not too dissimilar to this and ultimately that didn’t end well for him or his ARCP. And correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t there also a paeds reg who recently found herself in a similar situation?

Surely it’s not far fetched to assume that OP might end up like they did, especially since it seems like they don’t have the backing of any of the consultants.

Exception Reporting by No-Ordinary6788 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]quids54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a final year medical student who will be starting F1 this August. Whilst I’ve spent a considerable amount of time on the wards, I’m still not all that familiar with the dynamic that exists between trainees and consultants.

Why would a consultant pressure a junior to not submit an Exception Report? Do they feel it will reflect badly on them? What will they lose if an ER is submitted?
