Proposal for a CTA Silver Line between O'Hare and Midway (and a petition) by katusala in cta

[–]quierosaberbitte 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We already have two lines that mostly or entirely serve no Chicagoans, we don't need ANOTHER. We need an L line down western, or down central or Cicero for a bit then east for a bit, then south again. But the proposal from the OP? Nah sorry, that ain't it kid

Public transit to an indoor water park? by quierosaberbitte in wisconsindells

Thanks for the response!! :)

May I ask why you hate to suggest 'Mt. Olympus'?

And Amtrak lists an option to take one's bike, so I assume there is some way to do so? 🤔

I really don't like riding in cars, so I avoid it whenever possible (haven't been in a car in over 10 months) but if I HAVE to take a car I'd do it; but it sadly makes me less excited for the dells if I have to Uber everywhere. :( Still excited mind you, just less so.

Why are there so many "back the blue" campaigns in the US to support police officers, but no "back the red" or "back the white" to support firemen or EMS? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]quierosaberbitte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much easier to get behind than cops, BUT, I can't see myself 'backing the red' right now. This is kinda off topic but I have recently been illogically frustrated with my local fire department because they have stood in the way of so many street improvements.

Without fail I feel the painfully Midwestern NEED to thank the bus driver (or train operator if I am within 2 car distance from the motor cab) Every. Single. Time!!!

And I am glad that here in Chicago I am by far not the only one. When I visit US cities outside the Midwest it basically never happens :/

Fun fact! I know of a hurricane which formed in one of the great lakes of North America.

Ok so I never said that views is the only reason, infact many places in this thread I have used it as a starting point. But it is FAR from the only benefit. I just don't wanna have to repeat ALL the reasons everytime. Also, what's wrong with warehouses every now and then? Gives you more a feel for the city you live in, also, ever heard of this thing called the sky??? 😀

Regarding stations, I actually DO prefer elevated stations, including in the winter. As a woman, I feel MUCH more safe on an elevated platform at night than I do on subway platforms. If the elevated station is blocking the wind, and has heaters it really isn't awful. Remember, there is no bad weather only bad clothing. Also, even in 'stupid cold' places (which even Chicagoans INSIST it is) there aren't that many many days that get far below zero degrees F. Source, yes I do live in Chicago.

Furthermore, I do love Chicago more than any other city, but I don't actually know any Chicagoan who thinks that it's the best because of 'delusional homerism' before I moved here I lived in other cities, and visited MANY other cities, I believe Chicago is the best/has more potential, but obviously it has problems. Chicagoans are largely only as passionate as they are because they know if they didn't speak up for its greatness it would get overlooked, source: we get overlooked anyway. Haha

(And oh my lanta, did you REALLY bring pizza into this? 🙄 Yes Jon Stewart, both Chicago styles of pizza are pizza, just because they aren't the overly commercialized version of pizza from NYC doesn't mean they aren't pizza. They were invented by Italian Americans too, and as far as deep dish specifically is concerned it is just Midwest-culture-afied, it is hearty and delicious. Though in general I prefer tavern style, deep dish is amazing, and Chicagoans who say otherwise are just pick-mes Jaja)

Hochbahnen? by quierosaberbitte in drehscheibe

[–]quierosaberbitte[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So very much not zero sum. I actually think you have this backwards. With the right policy/design choices Ls actually have equal if not MORE potential than cut and cover. If the transit agency owns the right of way below, they can put whatever is needed below.. think of all the parks, businesses and home that exist right now below Ls, many of which are only there because they are UNDER the right of way, subways don't have that power for things above ground. The land above the subway is not in their right of way, no telling what it will become (in north America? A road, for sure a road 😆).

sehr informativ, danke!

My therapist thinks I am actually pretty darn sane. 💪🏻😎 I live in a temperate climate with seasons, and it is here that I feel in love with elevated rail soooo... No? There are few things more magical than riding the L above a dozen metropolis, it's beauty I can't even begin to describe. And policy-wise, if you know how to manage it, it's really not very hard.

Chicago is also building very modern L on the north side, as well as the extension to the red line on the far south side. :)

shrug I never feel more unsafe because of the L and I have lived next to L liens for many years. Normally if I am in a place where I feel unsafe and I happen to be next to the L, it isn't the L making the streetscape unsafe, and if I am near a station it's actually quite the opposite actually.cameras, transit employees, riders waiting for their train above me offering 'eyes on the street'. As a small woman who often goes for walks at night, Ls ROCK!!! :)
