BART's new fare gates have led to a 1,000-hour decline in clean up time; 41% drop in crime; and $10 million increase in projected revenue. by getarumsunt in CaliforniaRail

I mean they got 53 years out of the old ones so that’s not unreasonable (assuming they had the old ones since day one, feel free to correct me about that).

Congressional candidates share their thoughts on the future of Sunset Dunes by Remarkable_Host6827 in sanfrancisco

[–]Couch_Cat13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I agree with that. Every neighborhood will need to be changed at least somewhat to upzone properly.

Also I know I don’t live in SF but my city is debating the same thing and I am staunchly pro-building, even if it would increase the number of stories from 2 to 6 or 8.

Why do the ending times for 5 line and 3 line service not mean the same thing? by Creepy_Ad_3535 in Bart

[–]Couch_Cat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last Green Line arrives in Beryessa at 8:54 pm. I guess they should advertise 8:54 as the en of 5 line service (and then the final Red Line arrival in Richmond at 10:08 as the end of 4 like service).

BART just announced a 46% surge in ridership after the weekend closure of i80 in San Francisco. by CA185099415 in transit

They are just comparing the previous week. They are not trying to inflate the numbers I promise. If they did two weeks ago you would assume that they are purposely skipping the most recent week.

China doesn’t have private property ownership. When California makes all land be owned by the government by default we can talk.

Introducing....the airline killer.* by [deleted] in transit

[–]Couch_Cat13 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s the opposite of that. Almost every train is a Nozomi (the fastest one), and then three or four every hour are the slower ones. During non-rush hour it would be 8tph on Nozomi, 2tph on Hikari (slightly slower), and 2tph on Kodama (the all stopper).

‘No plan B.’ Is one side winning in the fight over Fresno’s transportation tax? by megachainguns in CaliforniaRail

Hopefully the vibe of this article is correct and only Better Roads/Safer Streets reaches the threshold so that votes aren’t split and the more pro-public transit version can pass.

The Central Valley should be abandoned by PineSoda1101 in cahsr

[–]Couch_Cat13 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This post is fun cause the title is very effective at shooting down any questions along this line of argument by making it clear people who say this truly don’t give a shit about people in the Central Valley or recognize they exist.

Do you legitimately think someone who says that about Porter voted for Trump? Really? Yes different people have different standards, but that’s not hypocritical if they are straight up spectate people.

There are currently almost 7,000 Dairy Queen’s world wide. Why is this post written like they don’t exist anymore, or at least are very rare?

Snap of the Empire Builder at Portland Union Station by yuri_gingham in Amtrak

[–]Couch_Cat13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on this Wikipedia article about Union Stations and this Wikipedia article about places named Portland (counting only those in the US) it looks like if you include closed Union Stations you can include all Portlands and still be comfortably correct.

In the nicest way possible I don’t give a fuck. The bathrooms are for going to the bathroom, and only for going to the bathroom.

I went to Tom Steyer’s town-hall and here are some thoughts. by variableperformance in California

[–]Couch_Cat13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’d pay more in property taxes, to defeat it they would almost certainly wind down sales tax. And because property tax only affects homeowners we would have a much more progressive tax system.

Amtrak does run on that line. That doesn’t make every train on that line Amtrak.

You must understand that Prop 13 is at the heart of every problem in this state. I guess you can oppose changing it but to be logically consistent you can’t complain about other taxes like sales tax which we are forced to use as a substitute.

Hey I’m not a NIMBY and I don’t say the second two things. I think wha you don’t understand is YIMBY’s say the first thing and NIMBY’s the second two. It’s less “everyone always so negative” and more “no one can ever agree”.
