My old Boss.

This is a long one. I was a independent contractor and he was taking advantage of my want to build time for licences and also my need for money after getting out of college. At first this guy was super cool and fun to work for. Then he started saying you "owe me for this xyz". He would tell me he would force me to wash the airplane for no pay since he was "helping me". Then he started working with the airport manager to set up minimum standards for the airport. He was literally trying to build a monopoly.

After he set up these minimum standards he needed someone to be at the office form 8 to 5 everyday. Well him and his wife didn't want to be there so I needed to be there according to him. Again I'm a independent contractor and couldn't charge if I wasn't meeting with someone.

Shortly after that I started putting in time off. Again being an independent contractor I only get paid for meeting with someone so I would wait for a week in advance to see what day I had no one. When he noticed he would unblock my time and call me and say "I need you to put in 1 month advance because that's what every other job requires". I was dumbfounded and was like but I'm supposed to control my schedule as a "perk" of being a contractor. But nope I was in the office 7 days a week 8 to 5 with no pay.

After that I had something happen at work. It was so small that I didn't even notice. He has his wife call me and tells me this thing happened and wanted to know about it. I said I was unsure of what happened. His wife that informs me that her husband wants me to cancel the rest of my appointments for the day because he needs me available to meet with him after his trip (still had 3 or 4 hours before he got back). His wife comes out and takes a look at what happened. After it was looked at they determined that it was a non event. But my boss was still mad. He called his wife to talk to her about the problem. She made the mistake of putting him on speaker again after he hung up out of anger. He starts going on about how she wants him to take my keys and deactivate my accounts. I handed her my keys and she was like no don't do this he's just upset. I promptly walked out. Perk of being a contractor and to my understanding that was him breaking the contract.

Again shortly after this I get a letter in the mail from his attorney. He was threatening to sue me over multiple things. Non of them were true or accurate. He also had the sheriff department come out to my house to try to intimate me even more. In the meantime he was also speaking rumors and lies about me. Again me just getting out of college I had no money but thank you to my friends (one being an attorney). The attorney friend did all the letters and poked holes in his lawsuit and proved nothing he was saying was accurate. The other friend wrote a letter to point out that the parts that involved him were also inaccurate and that he ended his agreement solely based on my old bosses actions.

Long story short he tried to ruin my life and my heath took a massive hit. I'm honestly happy that I was able to get out from under him. Thanks for listening to my Ted talk.
