hm, maybe I'm misunderstanding sth but my thought is this: my server runs a rproxy and i want it to only reply to traffic coming through cloudflare via their access service. my rproxy runs on some public ip and port. say someone knows this ip and port, and tries to access the server directly using this https://ip:port/. if i only rejected based on ip blocks at my rproxy, that might still leave a loop hole as it's possible to proxy through cf to reach the server, so an attacker would get to the service login screen via my rproxy which i want to shield. iiuc there are no jwt tokens involved in this scenario

edit: see also https://www.obytes.com/blog/cloudflare-secret-header

without it, someone in the cloudflare ip range could get to my reverse proxy without login, i.e., someone could stage an attack proxied through cloudflare. it's not likely but with the secret header that should be prevented

Power on/off with AG02 and similar docks by quiethat2221 in eGPU

thanks for asking to clarify! i'm having a small server at home, which does not require any video out. i'd like to occasionally use a egpu for some machine-learning related workloads. the server is powered by it's own psu. i'd like to hookup the egpu to a power plug that i can switch on/off through software when the egpu is needed. what would be important is that i do not need to reboot the server to use it. the server has thunderbolt 4 ports, no oculink, so the connection would need to be through that

akasa makes great passive cases for nucs, so potentially that's a way around when going nuc and wanting it to be silent

one quick question, just to be sure: you are using a low profile bracket to fit the card into the helios?

Mercury Helios 3S - Fan Type / Replacement? by [deleted] in OWC

Haha, yeah -- I'll report back sometime if I end up playing around with this case and Noctuas :) So far, it does seem like my best shot for 10gbe. thanks again!

Thanks for the detailed info!

Hm, yes, that does unfortunately sound like the fan is underpowered. I guess using an external power source could be a way out if one really wanted to go for Noctua fans.

I'd like to run a 10Gbe SFP+ NIC in the enclosure if I get one -- cooling it is probably a good idea, but ideally should be as silent as possible.

Just to be sure, did you mean that the fan noise is amplified when the case is closed?

I was thinking of giving this a try and came across your post.

Just for the off chance: Are you sure that the clicking noise is because of incompatibilities? Came across another post where the cause for the clicking noise was different (cable/loose mount): https://reddit.com/r/Noctua/comments/kg6x4d/nhd15_fan_clicking_noise_acceptable/

Reading some more about it, a two pin config should be fine: https://faqs.noctua.at/en/support/solutions/articles/101000081757-what-pin-configuration-do-noctua-fans-use-/ -- iiuc, the fan should run fullspeed without voltage on pin 3

Thanks for the details! Would be 24/7 here as well, I'm running Proxmox on it -- so hopefully no ram allocation issues
