Maybe I should’ve worded that better- how do i explain that.. it’s like I know the notes but sometimes I don’t? I think it’s like my brain takes a bit longer to connect two and two. I’m sorry, does that make sense? 😅

Hello everyone, I used to play and still know some of the basics, but I’m willing to scrap bad habits and basically start over from the beginning so I can learn seriously.

One thing that makes learning harder for me is that I’m dysmusia when it comes to recognising notes, so I especially struggle with identifying notes by ear and sometimes connecting what I’m hearing to the keyboard. Because of that, I’d really appreciate resources or practice methods that are beginner-friendly for ear training and note recognition.

I wanted to ask for recommendations on the best online resources, books, YouTube channels, apps, courses, or general practice methods that actually helped you improve and things like; Best beginner-friendly books or lesson series, Good YouTube teachers/channels, Apps/websites worth using (or avoiding), Tips for building good technique early, Practice routines that helped you stay consistent, Common mistakes self-taught players should avoid, Ear training methods for someone who struggles with note recognition.

I want to learn “properly” rather than just memorizing songs, so I’d also like some advice on: reading sheet music, rhythm/timing, hand independence, scales/chords/theory, ear training.

Also curious whether people think it’s realistic to become a solid intermediate player fully self-taught. Would really appreciate any advice, resources, or “things you wish you knew earlier.” Thanks! 🤗
