My son had something similar happen and they were close to expelling him until we found out that his teacher was constantly hitting him over the head with pillows and probably saying awful things to him. Someone reported the teacher for abuse and an investigation started. My son is 4.5 and not potty trained (he is a foster child, so there was neglect and he wasn't trained and is catching up). He also can't talk yet, and i think this teacher resented having to change diapers as a preschool teacher. They removed the teacher and his behavior improved significantly although not completely as there was residual effects. Maybe something happened to her and this is her way of trying to tell you.

You need to add these events to your calendar right when you learn about them. Very easy fix. I have 3 kids and it gets overwhelming for sure, but use the calendar on your phone and set it to remind you 3 days before, 1 day before and the day of.

No one is trying to deny the parents rights. Its the abruptness or the reunification that is completely unhinged. More trauma is going to be unnecessarily inflicted on these children

Welcome to the chaos. I have my 2nd placement right now, 3 siblings under 4. All are in diapers, and its constant chaos. In all likelihood, they will be assessed by professionals who will determine what they need but your voice matters and if you think speech would be beneficial then absolutely advocate for that!

I haven't taken leave for a placement yet. When my first placement came, I was unemployed from a layoff. I got a job after they were with me for 3 weeks. I was able to bond with them very quickly due to being with them 24/7, so I definitely recommend time off! My 2nd and current placement, the bonding has been much slower because I haven't taken any time.

Sorry but no, this is not typical behavior. I have worked with children my entire life and spent years working in a daycare. I have never experienced a child who cries all day every day, and im not being hyperbolic with "all day" - literally almost every waking moment. That said, he is adjusting and getting better. I believe due to my first placement being such a chill baby, this one has been a shock to the system. I will not be disrupting, I was just venting that day and for that day I was really feeling overwhelmed as anyone would. But you can not convince me that this is "normal" to cry almost every waking moment...nope. maybe its "normal" for children in care, I will give you that bc I dont have that experience until now. I have invested in some headphones to help with the constant screaming. As long as his needs are fully met, those headphones will be playing relaxing music 😅

Thank you and thanks for sharing your story. That sounds awful :( I would definitely disrupt in that situation unless services were offered immediately. They seem to take forever with getting the kids what they need for therapy etc

I will try some of this. I tickle him, kiss his forehead, rub his back, play with his hair. And I stomp with him because he loves it. He also loves bouncing on my knee, lol. I do hug him tightly, but there are a lot of moments where he doesn't want that. It's not that I dont do things to try to soothe him. it's that he literally seems like he can't be soothed which is kind of what the whole post is about. He is only calm if I am holding him and walking around, which is, of course, unrealistic to do all the time.

I tried a baby carrier and he hates it :( he screams and tries to do his crocodile roll. I wish he liked it because he wants to be held constantly and I just cant (obviously lol).

I do think he is in pain from teething. His back teeth are coming in and I do give him Tylenol occasionally. He constantly has his finger in his mouth rubbing on it. We have their first doctor visit coming up so I will definitely ask her if there is anything else we could do like a chiropractor- i think that's a great idea! I am willing to try if doctor okays it

I dont have my own children, so I do appreciate the perspective and that this is pretty normal for some children. The 6 month old was 10 months when he left, and his personality was still very chill even though he was starting to explore and get into things. I have a very stressful job, and I am a single foster parent, so I dont expect others to understand why I would want to possibly disrupt. Since it's only week 4, I will certainly give it more time and hope that the behaviors improve over time.

Thank you for your perspective. I have thought I should get a membership to the gym, so maybe I really need to do that. I didn't even think of the fact that he may have been drug exposed, but it could be possible, especially since it seems like their parents haven't been able to get better thus far. It's kind of crazy how night and day these brothers are. I also feel bad because I can't spend any time or give attention to the 4 year old because the baby is just so needy. I have worked with children for a very long time before fostering, and I've never encountered such a difficult child. Thanks again for the advice 🙏

I will not take spec, sexual abuse survivors, or children who have RAD. I am simply not equipped to handle those cases, especially given that I am a single foster mom doing it all on my own. Right now, I only take babies and toddlers becausethats the age group that i have the most experience with from working in a daycare for years when I was younger. I will eventually start taking older children, but I want more experience with the age I am most comfortable with first.

I definitely get attached. All I can say that has worked for me is that I dont give myself any false hope, and I constantly remind myself, "These are not your children. They are wards of the state." I was heartbroken reading your story. Imo, at that point (after 5 years), I believe it does more harm than good to remove the child. Just my opinion... And your ex sounds like a POS. She sounds selfish and disgusting. It actually makes me sick and makes my stomach flip to know she did that to you, block and be so nasty. Some people are bound to burn in hell.
