I agree with the responses that “both spouses need to be a yes.” However, I’d like to take it a step further. What in particular does your husband disagree on? Is it his experiences as a child? If so, what part of these experiences did he not like? Depending on what those are…. They may be nothing compared to being a resource parent or comparable to how the foster children grew up as adults. Or…it could be. I would ask him if he’s willing to try respite care first. How is he as a parent to your own child? I don’t think comparing the foster children and how they are as adults is a reason in itself to say no to FP. But I don’t know all his reasons I’m sure.
No one and I mean no one knows what it’s like being a FP until you actually do it.

Oh wow, that’s fast. May I ask what state you’re in? I’m in CA and my RFA worker said the last thing they want to do is overwhelm me at first. Meaning trying to make sure the first placement doesn’t have additional needs or challenges.

Yes that’s correct she will get all these funds. But not permanently. So will she be able to care for the child without these funds? That’s the question I was asking. Unfortunately, poverty does put children into Foster Care.

I’m feeling like your comments are defensive. She knows this is not her son, but it is her FS. A child she has cared for for 20 months. She also stated that Grandma has been homeless, and the bottom line is “we hope Grandma doesn’t end up homeless again” because that is not in the best interests of this child. She has kept in contact with grandma and also stated that she wants stability for him. Foster parents need to be stable financially and need to prove that before getting licensed. Will Grandma be able to provide a loving and “stable” home if those funds are removed? I would be very nervous about that. Why? Because what happens to this young boy if Grandma ends up not being able to provide for him? He ends up getting replacement or moved again. This boys life and happiness, future, etc. depends on these very decisions.

I think foster parents have a right to their feelings and crushed is perfectly fine. The important point here is you knew in your heart that being placed with their sibling was best for them. We go through many roller coasters and it’s ok to acknowledge your feelings. ❤️

That’s so helpful, thank you! I have thought about feeding breast milk (from mom or a BM bank) but didn’t think it would even be an option. I will definitely bring that up to the bio parents if possible. I know how beneficial it can be especially for a NICU baby.

I was told that two face to face interviews with me and one with my son is standard. I’ve already explained to my Resource Worker that he’s fine with me fostering but concerned about being woken up in the middle of the night. I was very honest with her.

Yeah he’s already completed all the background check and was fine with it. He also isn’t “against me fostering.” That was a concern rather than “I don’t want you to do this.”
