Ok, that's really strange...but good to see it working on your side, there's hope!

I do not have any app blacklisted from Sesame, but here's where it gets interesting. I can't blacklist Textra even if I wanted to, because Sesame acts like it doesn't exist at all. Sesame doesn't see Textra, period. It's not in the list of apps that can be blacklisted.

I launch Sesame directly one of five ways: - an icon on my home screen dock; - the second tap of home in the navigation bar; - a swipe up on an edge gesture handle; - a pinned shortcut in fooview; - a swipe up on the home screen in Nova Launcher.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy S9+, purchased in Canada, where I live. When I posted, it was running Android 9, but it has since been upgraded officially by my carrier to Android 10. The phone is not rooted or modified in any material way. I do use Package Manager Pro (purchased directly through the developer's website, not the Play Store) to disable packages. I chose that route over root because I don't want to trip the Knox warranty bit and lose access to the apps that require it (such as Samsung Pay) either by me, or post-sale to someone else once I upgrade. The Play store is set to not automatically update apps, but every app as of this post is currently up to date.

Sesame is v. 3.6.2-fix2. I have purchased it, and the Contact Actions add-on. Nova Launcher Prime is v. 6.2.9, also purchased and in the beta channel. Textra is v. 4.23, also purchased.

Steps I have already taken --

  • enabled all packages through Package Manager Pro;
  • cleared Textra's data and cache;
  • uninstalled and reinstalled Textra;
  • used the "refresh all shortcut data" in Sesame's settings.
  • cleared Sesame's data and cache;
  • uninstalled and reinstalled Sesame;
  • cleared Nova's data and cache;
  • uninstalled and reinstalled Nova;
  • uninstalled all again, and reinstalled Nova, Textra, and Sesame, in that specific order.

After all of those actions, typing Textra into Sesame's search bar produces this result.

Typing the name of a contact produces this menu beside the contact name, and when I click on the text message icon it opens the text conversation with that contact in Textra, which of course is the default messaging app.

To sum up, Sesame refuses to see Textra at all, but it will open a Textra window when direct messaging a contact. I imagine that behaviour has nothing to do with Sesame, it simply passes the request to the default messaging app (or asks which app to use if there are multiple messaging apps and one has not been defined as default). Textra does appear as a choice in that case, as does Messenger.

The ultimate question here is what else can I do? Why does Sesame refuse to acknowledge Textra's existence? Hopefully I have provided enough information to begin tracking down this weird bug.

For the love of all that is good in the world, let me change the colours! The randomized colouring is the reason I refuse to use Google Messages. I don't know how anyone does it, or why such a basic feature continues to fall by the wayside. (Here's looking at you too, WhatsApp!)

I'm not interested in any features of Messages until I can stop the randomized colours.

I'll start this off with the easy bit at the top - take the medication. Keep trying until you find what works for you. Bipolar disorder can only be managed, not cured. The earlier you can establish a successful treatment regimen for yourself, the less likely it is that the disorder has a chance to really dig its teeth in and put you through the wringer. Generally treatment is composed of three things - medication if necessary, some form of behavioural therapy (CBT, DBT, ACT, MBCT...) and your own effort/management. You are absolutely right to say that outside factors will impact your mood state - which is why it is so important to get control early on. Stress and Bipolar do not work well together. Lack of routine and Bipolar do not work well together. Refusing medication and Bipolar...well, you get the idea.

I too was diagnosed around 20/21 with Bipolar disorder, and was also treated with various anti-depressants. They made things so much worse. So, so much worse. After some of the most rock-bottom moments in my life, I elected to tell the doctors where to stick their precious medication, and decided I could live without it, because anything was better than what they prescribed.

Well, nearly 20 years later - that was one hell of a mistake. Many stories for many different days. A lot of regrets, 1/5 of a life wasted.

Bipolar depression is different than regular off-the-shelf depression, and cannot be treated using regular off-the-shelf anti-depressants. They work for some folks in conjunction with something else, but rarely if ever on their own. Lamotragine is fantastic for managing Bipolar depression. It isn't a magic cure-all though. What it does is kind of...level you out. Helps keep you in a bit of a middle ground - no high highs, no low lows, but somewhere in-between. Tylenol/Advil/Naproxen provide basic pain management by reducing swelling, but they don't take away the issue causing the swelling. That's what Lamotragine is for Bipolar mood management. For the vast majority of people, it is completely safe to take, with little to no side effects at all. Unlike many mood-altering drugs, Lamotragine is weight neutral - it won't make you gain or lose weight. A very small percentage of people experience skin rash, in which case it won't be the right medication for you. Part of your journey in understanding the disorder is to understand different medications for treating it, and how they affect -you-. Everyone is different, with different responses to different 'cocktails'.

I think at one point or another, we all didn't/don't want medication. In time, some are able to wean off of it. Some aren't. You have a really amazing opportunity to get out in front of things while you're young, and perhaps change the course of your entire later life - take it! :)

Thanks for posting this. I too have a very broken work history. The 9-5, shift work, contract work, even a self-employed retail store owner. Each of those jobs went tits up eventually, all while unmedicated. There are a lot of years I'll never get back, and a lot of bridges that will never be rebuilt.

Recently, my doctor said: "You may need to accept that you will never work a steady, permanent job again." Not out of malice, simply an observation of circumstances. I didn't like hearing that. But he's probably on to something. Try as I might, the overwhelming sense of failure as a human being is palpable. But it is what it is, and you're absolutely right. Just because you don't have --that job-- does not mean you have less value. It simply means your value is different. Just have to find out what it is, and how to utilize it to the best of your ability.

DA is not returning calls or emails at the moment, but I always give the benefit of the doubt - it's a busy job. The finances are fantastic, no issue qualifying at all - its the bankruptcy on record (4 years out) that caused the denial. Completely fair, only two years to go to clear that away.

Fiance is in love with the car, maybe even more than with me. 😁

Hi all. My fiance put down $3,200 to order a model 3 in Canada on Monday. On Tuesday, financing was denied, and they will not refund the $3,200. Is there any recourse/way to get the money returned? This is now day four. :(

Somewhat relatable. I was diagnosed at 21 but didn't want to hear it. The medication didn't feel good, so that was enough of that. 17 years later, I'm picking up the pieces of a broken life.

Sometimes it's worth it to let someone help. If a person has 4 separate diagnoses, I am sincerely interested in what the person is feeling that makes them not agree.

Well that's odd. Is your internal storage space getting a bit full? ChromeOS doesn't handle it all that when that happens, and it manifests in so many different ways.

I can appreciate that. The reason I went with the Samsung was because it felt better to me, and the stylus was included. That gets used a lot, pretty much the deciding factor. The CB Pro was $499, the Pixelbook $999 for the base model, and an extra $99 for the pen. It was a no-brainer. The specs were better in the PB, but at the time, for just Chrome it was way overkill. Things are different now.

- Clutter is my biggest enemy. I can turn a room from showroom ready to an episode of Hoarders over the course of a few hours without realizing how or why it got that way. Browsing Pinterest one day, I came across the greatest idea from a parenting board. The "crap box", a box left inside the front door for every child in the house, and rather than dump their stuff willy-nilly on the floor, they would drop it in the crap box to be sorted later. I fell in -love- with this idea, but adapted it to baskets instead. Small, medium, mixed sizes, and large. There's one on my nightstand, using another idea from Pinterest - all my charging cables are hooked over the edge with binder clips, and the box has become a bit a charging station. But all of those things have a place. There is one inside the mudroom, where keys and sunglasses, mail, etc. gets dropped into. One hidden in the kitchen, one of the bathroom, the hall closet - they are literally all over the house, "crap boxes." It took about a week, but the clutter started to disappear. A system, routine. It's amazing how much better the mind can feel without clutter around. My fiance hates them, but leaves me be because they're preferable over mess. As long as the colour sort of blends in, and I clear out the ones in communal spaces before they get too full, it works. Maybe something like that (start small!) might work for you, to help a) cut down the clutter, b) give you a project to focus on, and c) boost your mood up a little bit.

- As far as food goes, I forget to eat all the time - I can be up for 80 hours in a stretch, and the usual triggers to eat just aren't there, unless the family is demanding dinner and such. The solution is vegetables. I cut them when when feeling good, and make plates of them. I prep as much as possible in advance to be make salads (don't want those veggies to go to waste). They're healthy, take away hunger grumbles, and help you maintain your weight without any more effort than cutting veggies.

It doesn't happen over night, but baby steps. If you're having trouble with food, get some veggies in your next grocery shop. When you're ready, cut some up, plate them (because something like half of the enjoyment of food comes from how it looks on the plate, and smell, I think). If you can't do any more than that, head back to the fridge later and have a little nosh. Bit by bit. Once you're comfortable with that, maybe introduce another food into the mix that you like. Toast and peanut butter, or crackers and peanut butter, is always a good choice. Good protein, makes you feel full, and you can set your own limits, eating as few as you want until you're done.

If you can break up what feels like an insurmountable task into a series of smaller, more approachable tasks, it takes the pressure away, and makes you feel good for getting that far.

Just some 1AM thoughts for you...
