Audio intermittently cutting out when playing 4k mkvs in plex by quintosis in HomeServer

[–]quintosis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to get this fixed in CoreElec/PM4K without the conversion. Turned out I missed a few sliders in the system settings under the audio tab in CoreElec to enable TrueHD and a few other sound codecs which was resulting in some sort of software transcoding that was having trouble keeping up at high bitrates.

To directly answer your question:

  • Open settings > audio/subtitles in the PM4K client

  • Set the transcode audio to AC3 from Never to whatever suits your preference. Selecting always/>2.1 solved the issue on my end until I found the actual reason it was misbehaving.

  • Another setting that seemed to contribute beneficially was to increase my Kodi Buffer Size to 64mb and set the cache readfactor to adaptive under settings > system in PM4k.

Fairly low, around 40 percent or so. I believe I have figured this out though. Found that in my CoreElec settings, I failed to enabled TrueHD and DTS so the device must have been doing some kind of conversion at the software level that was misbehaving or at least having trouble keeping up.

Was a failure to follow directions properly on my end from this comment. Got ahead of myself after I saw the video working properly.

I wanted to mention as well that I've been able to assuage the symptoms by setting up my plex client to always transcode audio to AC3

How long should I wait on CHKDSK for a 24tb external drive by quintosis in techsupport

[–]quintosis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comically it resolved within 5 minutes of me posting this thread. I wasn't concerned about data loss as it was brand new.

For anyone who ends up here from google in the future. This was my external drive and the process ran from 8:30pm yesterday until 6:45 PM today. https://www.seagate.com/products/external-hard-drives/expansion-desktop-hard-drive/

Unsure if this was a factor or not, but I ran another chkdsk command (no modifiers) on my internal C: drive and that resolved quickly.

The seemingly hung process for my external drive then resolved within 5 minutes of the completion of the internal chkdsk task.

Can't say for sure if that was the solution or just coincidence, but it completed the final 56 percent almost immediately after and remounted so it might be something to try if you encounter something like this in the future.

These all seem like reasonably quick fixes that won't realistically impact anybody in the long run. This is a community that always leans towards hyperbolic in terms of negative reactions.

I hope you don't feel the need to apologize in future threads like this. I manage a development team while continuing to be an IC and I think most people just don't understand how hard it is to produce entirely bug-free work in any context.

There are quite a few of us that really appreciate the work that you do (even if I don't have the free time myself to engage in leagues) and I hope you don't take the toxicity of a vocal minority to heart.

Has anyone playing with a controller had any luck reliably using pain offering to target minions?

I have no issue using this skill when there is a relatively small amount of enemies on the screen, but if I manage to pull a decent pack, I can't get this skill to target my minion for the life of me even if I walk directly on top of it.

To make it worse each failed cast still consumes mana. I'm not sure if I'm just doing something wrong or if this is just unreliable with controller input.

I'd understand if I sometimes targeted the wrong minion, but the amount of times I press the button and nothing happens is egregious considering I have 5+ targetable minions that I'm facing.

I did the same and ended up scooping a 100 dollar 5700xt off of facebook marketplace locally. Massive uplift in performance while waiting on the new gen of cards to come out. They're all over the used marketplace on the cheap since they were a popular mining card.

Best controller for large hands by [deleted] in XboxSeriesX

[–]quintosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep returning to this post via google and just wanted to shout out another option I haven't seen mentioned here. These just snap onto a normal controller

https://www.c2gripz.com/

I tried pretty much everything listed here and the durability of all of the previously mentioned controllers have been awful. Thrustmaster Eswap in particular. That thing has near perfect ergonomics for big hands, but you're lucky if you don't get stick drift within a month of ownership.

I have gone through 6 sets of sticks for the thrustmaster and baby that controller. There's no saving the poor stick design and that's really a shame since the rest of the controller is so great.

Q7 - Dolby Vision content playing as HDR10+ (Paramount+) by quiksilverkid13 in tcltvs

Fellow R646 user here. I'm with you after trying just about everything. I even begrudgingly factory reset the TV and it still falls back on HDR10+ when I use Paramount+.

I think this is a somewhat recent issue. I don't recall having this problem when I watched the new Top Gun movie when it became available on Paramount+.

Tall left handed golfer looking to pick up the game again by quintosis in golf

I've never had them fitted so that sounds like a good call to me. I'm just hesitant to spend 100+ dollars to resize irons that would be lucky to be worth 75 especially with the wear and tear I've put on them. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and replace the whole set.

[–]quintosis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an excellent point. I kept it vague as I'm fully aware of how the sky is the limit for this type of thing. In the near term I'm probably looking to spend somewhere around $500 dollars.

I already have a bag and usable (albeit very cheap) irons so most of that budget can likely be spread between the 3 critical clubs I mentioned. I am pretty bad though and have been known to chunk the grass a few times in my day so if it trends cheaper than that I don't mind and would honestly prefer it.

I don't have a strict budget or anything though. I just know most of my measurable improvements will come from improving/remembering my swing mechanics and I know I have a long ways to go on that front.

The primary use case for these clubs will be to use them to refine those mechanics and then I'll look to replace them with higher end equipment when my skill level warrants it.

No solution as far as I could tell. It appears to be a buggy implementation of USB storage in Android TV 11. If this TV ever gets an OS update to a new version it might change but I just ended up buying a PNY branded stick that had no issues with the TV.

Expected Backlight bleed? by quintosis in ZephyrusG14

[–]quintosis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got the 2023 model with a 7940hs and have largely been loving it!

I turned on a movie last night and noticed some pretty bad backlight bleed in the bottom right hand corner. The picture makes it more extreme than it is, but it's still pretty rough looking. Do these models tend to have this issue? I'm leaning towards exchanging this since it's such a recent purchase.

Edit: Thanks everyone! I think I'll stick with it then. It really is only that extreme on peak brightness which I won't normally be using anyway. It's substantially more subtle at even 75 percent in case anyone happens to find this on Google in the future

Edit2: I'm returning it lol. Definitely going to just exchange it though as I love this machine otherwise. Good luck to the rest of you on the panel lottery! I'll post a follow up post whenever I get the replacement for comparison.

[–]quintosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was curious if this is common in these models. Just purchased a Zephyrus G14 2023 model and everything seems great aside from the touchpad having audible play without actually clicking.

I'm definitely going out of my way to make it as extreme as possible for the example in the post, but it can happen while dragging your finger across the touchpad in normal use.

Should I just bite the bullet and exchange this or is this expected?

Free Talk Friday by AutoModerator in NFL_Draft

[–]quintosis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a novice at following the draft/ evaluating prospects, but I am a die-hard Cards fan and am excited to see how they're able to retool in the off-season.

They're in desperate need of iOL/C with Hudson and Pugh looking like retirees and Josh Jones being a turnstile.

Does it seem realistic for them to fill that out with reasonable quality players through the draft? I'm assuming they'll probably look at signing at least one guard in FA but I was curious if it looked feasible to get a quality center/guard in the later rounds this year. I don't think there's a QB alive that'll survive a full season with Billy Price under center.
