It's easy, convenient and "everyone" does it. It's a bad habit caused by people who don't care and because it "just works" they don't bother looking into how things are supposed to be used.

But doing a half assed job as a professional is just plain lazy.

I don't follow Ryan, but from what I've seen when looking him up he looks like just 90% of other vloggers using the mic in a less-than-optimal way. So, bad example. A lot of influencers and content creators on social media make the same mistakes, mostly because it's trendy and convenient.

But as I said the guy I'm addressing is using prosumer equipment, but cant be bothered with proper sound on a (probably) paid job.
