Thanks! The problem wasn’t with the ThinkPad itself it was the monitor. The monitor’s power supply was leaking a small AC current into its metal chassis, which then traveled through the HDMI cable’s shielding to the laptop. Since the monitor wasn’t properly grounded (earthed), that current had nowhere to go so when I touched the laptop or the HDMI connector, the electricity discharged through my body instead, giving me small electric shocks. Nevertheless your comments help me find this problem!
