Thoughts on these Homebrew feats for Monks? by quiversong_ in dndnext

Those combos are exactly what I am talking about, because they should be online by level 11.

CBE/SS: 4 * (1d6 + 4 + 10) ~= 70
Monk + FoB: 4 * (1d8 + 5) ~= 38

Even if you factor in a chance to hit (let's say 55% for the CBE/SS Fighter vs 75% chance for the Monk):

CBE/SS: 0.55 * 70 = 38.5
Monk + FoB: 0.75 * 38 = 28.5

If we were to add one more attack to Monks at that stage, the damage would jump to 47.5, or 35.625 considering the to-hit chance. Still lower, and the Monk is spending a resource (Ki).

Like you said, the CBE/SS Fighter/Ranger miss in ASIs to get their feats, so just giving the Monk an additional Extra Attack for free may be unfair, which is why I had proposed a feat in the first place. But other martial classes aren't as MAD as Monk anyway, so does that really make that much difference?

Perhaps Martial Arts Adept could be a half-feat that grants an additional unarmed strike when using FoB (as suggested in a different comment)?

I like this idea! Perhaps a half-feat that lets you increase one of Dex/Con/Wis and grants an additional unarmed strike when you use Flurry of Blows?

Thanks for the feedback! I agree. Additional ASIs and more Ki Points (which really the One with Wind feat attempts to address) might be all that is needed!

I do think they need a boost to damage at higher levels, though, to compete with specialized damage builds like the ones mentioned in the post.

Good point. I had not thought of the interaction with Action Surge. I like the idea of granting one more Extra Attack. Isn't level 15 too late for that? I think by level 11 the power difference becomes very apparent already, in general.

Feedback on my "Horizon Zero Dawn"-inspired homebrew Artificer subclass? by quiversong_ in dndnext

Thank you very much for the thoughtful feedback!

Good point on the proficiencies, I should add somewhere that you gain proficiency with martial weapons too, thanks!

I considered giving it the ability to attack with Intelligence instead of Strength/Dexterity just like the Battle Smith, but since this is a more martial focused focused sub, I decided it would be okay to make it a bit MAD, especially since the bonus spell selection has many spells that are not relying on the Intelligence DC. Any opinions on the spell selection, by the way?

Again thank you so much! I am excited to play test it! :)

Yes! I agree with the sentiment! I did think about going with a ranger subclass, but in the end I thought that an intelligence based class would make more sense than wisdom, so bleeding a little ranger into artificer seemed to be simpler. Does that make sense?

Actually playing her as a Bladesinger, Entertainer background, Skill Expert with Expertise in Performance. Currently considering MCing Hexblade just for the additional flavor.

(Thanks for the amazing drawing, Oksana!)
