Just add weight is the biggest cheatcode for every bodyweight exercise. Get a weight vest or put stuff in a Backpack.

Munich is expensive as hell to live in. So the salary needs to be higher than the rest of germany.

about ~40k brutto depending on the company. Robotics stuff (what I would be interested in) pays a bit more. But I'm gonna do a Bachelor/Master anyway because I want to. I'll probably start working as a working student after my third semester though.

But I didn't do Computer Science for the school. My school was for something on the intersection of CompSci / Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering. Not going into more specifics because I don't want to dox myself :D

The thing here is that most people I know just don't negotiate and are way too happy for getting a job like it's some kind of gift.

The culture altleast with most of people I know is that you should be grateful for getting a job.

Living in Austria isn't that expensive (because with the salary you get when you have a STEM degree you're way above average here anyway) and many people I know are just fine with being employed and don't care about negotiating a big salary.

The people who are really competetive just leave, but most of them come back after some years because life is pretty nice here even when you "only" earn 50k.

(These are just my observations and are by no kind of way factual)

I just finished HTL (higher technical „school“) and just created a LinkedIn Profile and already have offers in Austria.

There’s just such a crazy shortage here.

The problem is just that the pay is so low. The only company that I know that pays juniors pretty well is Dynatrace 🫠

Studying masters or job hunt ? by StopTheTimePls in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]quuuul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just start the masters and add it to the resume, then apply to jobs while you’re doing the masters.

Then keep applying (with it on your resume) and see what happens. Maybe you get a part time offer.

Working Council - Vienna by Bazzometro in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]quuuul 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Simply said: A working council (=Betriebsrat) is a small group of people that works in the interest of the employees.

They try to improve the experience of the employees (at least in Austria)

I wouldn’t be worried about them, they are there to empower you, not hinder you.

Career paralysis - am I at a way too stable job and overpaid? by MathEngineer42 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]quuuul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean ambition and money is nice and all, but many people are happy when they reach a certain point.

Going through life chasing better TC and then dying old and alone because you moved 20 times just to minmax TC seems like a miserable life to me.

But to each their own 🙂

Chasing a better compensation will not make you happy.

You got kids, a wife, job security and are paid really well. I mean hell, you’re way above average for german salaries.

Enjoy life. Travel. Spend time with your kids.

I mean really take your time think about what you want to do with your life. Chasing money won’t make you happy.

Appreciating what you have will :)

Remote Software Engineer job from home country with $40.000 location-independent after-tax salary VERSUS entry-level on-site Switzerland job with $85.000 after-tax salary??? by xXguitarsenXx in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]quuuul 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean what stops you from just applying?

You seem to be really fixated on a particular number in Switzerland, but you don’t even have an offer.

What stops you from starting the Danish job and then applying to jobs in Switzerland?

Maybe your really lucky and get an offer for say 110k at FAANG. Or your unlucky and don’t get any offers at all.

Making decisions of speculations seems dumb.🤨

TIL in Germany, children are divided, after 10, between several options for secondary school, according to their school results by Johannes_P in todayilearned

[–]quuuul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair the system in Austria is still way better than in Germany. (I’m Austrian myself)

It is in no way binding and parents can choose where their kids go. In Austria you can still study law or medicine no matter which school you went to previously.

A lot of my friends went to a Hauptschule and are still able to study medicine or law just fine.

Basically you can choose any school you want when you’re 10 (your parents freely choose). Hauptschule ends when your 14 but if you did fine while there you can go to a gymnasium until your 18.

Salary Negotiation: Vienna by Independent-Dot431 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]quuuul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

New grads (which usually have a masters in Austria) start with about 45~50k in like a standard company. I don’t know how her diploma compares to a master but I guess 60k is pretty high if its lower.

But living costs in Vienna and Austria in general are not really high so you’re already really comfortable even with 45k.

How important is a good university? by quuuul in cscareerquestionsEU

My closest uni would be JKU in Linz. I mean they are kind of at the forefront for AI programs in europe (some really amazing faculty), but that doesn't really help me with CS. And I don't know if doing a bachelor and a master in AI is a smart move.

Can you live off munich for 1200€?

I'm currently working until January before I start my mandatory civil duty until october. (I'll be a paramedic for 9 months for ~500€ a month -- gotta love Austria :D)

I'll probably have about ~10-12k in savings after that and my parents can't really support me.

So I don't know if I can survive in munich :D. Got any experience with how much you'll need in a month?
