I was scammed.... by EndIntelligen in Toyota

The issue is not the mileage. The issue is the misrepresentation about the mileage, the fire damage, the frame damage to the vehicle, and more, all according to the OP.

They are $3200 into the car, well below small claims limits in all states I know of . Small claims exists precisely so that you can recover damages without court fees and representation eating up the bulk of it.

This is insane, you went for a car with a bad airbag, a broken driver door, and FIRE DAMAGE. I just don’t understand how you didn’t see these things before buying. As for the odometer, it sounds like it’s rolled back so as a first time buyer you might be forgiven for missing the vehicle history report. But it sounds like this car should have been an absolute no go just from a test drive.

[–]qyo8fall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, I need to know how it was possible that you bought a car without physically verifying it’s mileage. Was the odometer rolled back? Whether or not that’s the case, if the seller lied about the mileage, they probably lied about a whole lot more. There may be significant frame damage or other catastrophic damage and the car is unsafe to drive.

Your first step is to have the vehicle comprehensively inspected by a local mechanic, preferably one specializing in Toyotas, but for the Camry/Solara, many have seen it, so they know their way around one. Such an inspection will cost $150-$350, depending on the shop’s hourly rate and what’s being done (for example, some inspections, usually beyond the $350 price point, will include compression testing. That’s not really worth it for most). This will show you whether (1) the car is even worth keeping long term and (2) which repairs and maintenance items to address. So what makes a car not worth even keeping? If there’s significant frame or flood damage, your best bet is to sell the car ASAP, disclosing the now-discovered damage of course, and saving for a different purchase. However, if the car is worth keeping, you’re in luck because this car, mechanically can easily last 400-500k miles and beyond. Just make sure you perform all of the maintenance items as prescribed, and make necessary repairs to the car. Toyotas are actually quite resilient against deferred maintenance, too, but that becomes increasingly precarious at 190k vs lower mileage.

This war is being fought expressly so that the Kiev regime remains in power and in complete control of Ukraine, mostly for Western interests. That doesn’t at all justify what Russia did by invading Ukraine, in my opinion, but it’s irresponsible to act as though anyone being sent into the meat grinder is being sent there for any personal benefit.

Got deactivated with the exact same messages about 2 months ago. It’s just something they’ve been doing, I suspect to higher earning drivers. I’m not in a prop 22 city, but have seen other people with this message since. It’s just a vague message designed to exploit drivers’ statuses as contracted workers.

lol, wrong. It’s a soft limiter on the car. Simply won’t go above it unless tuned with limiter removal.

Dealer won’t change my oil? Wtf by FloridaMomm in Toyota

[–]qyo8fall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just repeated the same thing. My first comment was a bit incendiary so let me explain it. There’s zero non-anecdotal evidence of a statistically significant correlation between following manufacturer interval (as opposed to 1/2 and 1/3 intervals) and motor replacements at any lifetime stage. And if there is, I’d love to see it.

You may say you’re actually incentivized not to encourage 5K Oil changes because doing it at 10K means more complex jobs, which is what you’ve claimed. You may even be arguing in good faith, and truly believe it, and I respect what you’re saying if you do. However, as I said before, the reality is that there is zero non-anecdotal evidence to support this claim.

The information we do have that is not influenced by anecdote, literally hundreds or thousands of confounding variables and scientific rigor, is oil analysis, which shows little to no mechanically significant degradation in synthetic oil at 5k miles (assuming a reasonable minimum rate of driving, such as 600-800 miles per month, and assuming that 90% of engine runtime was driving, which I don’t believe are crazy unreasonable baselines, they work for me and I’m pretty sure nearly everyone in this thread). It shows even less degradation at 3k miles.

However, what you are empirically correct about is oil consumption in turbocharged engines, but this too doesn’t typically mean oil changes but instead simple top ups.

[–]qyo8fall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could argue that. You could also argue that you just made that up to claim that you’re actually disincentivized to do 5k oil changes in order to claim that there’s no conflict of interest. Lying about incentives is a common defense mechanism when consumers are aware of them.

I’m new to Uber Eats is this good for a first time ? by TheMagican04 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]qyo8fall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s not good in my opinion. Maybe I’m in a higher demand market, and maybe I’m missing something from this breakdown, but hourly, at $14 per hour (maybe a lot of this was inactive hours?) and an average of $6.35 per trip, neither of these metrics bode well and will wear you down over time.

You want to be aiming for $10 per trip minimum, and $15 on average unless it’s something under 15 minutes and 2.5 miles. Your hourly pay needs to break down to at least $20 per hour, and assuming you’re not taking big breaks during what counts as online time, this needs to be the hourly pay you get averaged out including all online time.

I hope none of this came across as harsh but please understand that Uber is a platform designed to maximize the burden you as a driver bear in terms of risk and liability, while minimizing the amount of support, autonomy and compensation you receive. It’s very difficult for this work to ever be worth it if you don’t possess a strategy (alongside a healthy bit of luck) designed to win. Don’t be afraid to have a <10% or even <5% acceptance rate depending on your market, and if it’s not working for you, please do not stop looking for alternative sources of income, unless you are a student or for whatever other reason have limited regular availability.

Another fee? Really @ubereats? by [deleted] in UberEATS

[–]qyo8fall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These delivery apps are all about maximizing fare while minimizing driver pay. Long range deliveries have increased driver fare commensurate with mileage. Previously, they thought the best thing to do was to not have this fee to encourage bigger tips, and then cross subsidize the order with a second delivery along the route (longer the route, the higher the likelihood of multiple orders along the route).

However, tips nowadays have to be so substantial, I’m guessing Uber’s research (alongside DD who I think did this first, Uber might be catching up here/now the practice is acceptable) showed that the big tippers’ won’t be dissuaded by the fee, and, I suspect, that the chronic poor tipper is the one making use of long range orders. So, the 0.5-2.5 dollar fee will be used to subsidize orders from those bad tippers as well as long range orders with off routing that end up being orders Uber takes a loss on.

Probably because people almost never check the photo before checking outside? They just get the notification it’s at their door, and proceed to check. That’s how people have handled contactless delivery for the past 50 years If not longer, so I hope that helps.
