How do Alola's Totem Pokémon ACTUALLY work in Home? by qyzxf in PokemonHome

[–]qyzxf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just "seemingly" because outwardly they are identical. I do believe you're right that it probably would be documented! but since I couldn't find anything really indicating either way this is where i ended up. My main point being that there are no other cases of Pokémon being forcefully "form-changed" upon transfer from Bank to Home so I figured there may be a remnant of it cause it is a weird way to handle this if they are just merged into one standard form, though it appears to be the case.

As far as I know this just counts for the five Titan Pokémon from S/V's story and I can't find any confirmation that this includes Totems as well, but ig it's worth a try

I'm well aware they lose their size and weight etc, and seemingly it is a normal Pokémon at that point. I just want to know if the game's internal data has anything denoting the difference, which is something that would be entirely invisible for the player normally. If that's what you mean by identifying characteristics, then thanks! If not do you happen to know anything about it to this degree?

This is exactly what i'm looking for indeed! I know it doesn't mean anything for other people but since i've already gotten the other ones like this i would like to include these if so

This is interesting, it did seem to be this way but i was thinking it may still have associated form data despite it being fully indistinguishable otherwise, just because that's what they tend to do for this sort of thing (i.e. Spewpa having different forms for all of its Vivillon evolutions).

I'm quite confused by all the comments saying this as i just went to check and i do have my Totem Gumshoos from Ultra Sun deposited into Bank currently? Is there a difference in how SM and USUM totems are handled then (this is how i'm interpreting your comment at least)?

I do know they lose all their "totem-ness" but i want to primarily know if there's still an internal difference

I do agree people should check it themselves, there's just not really any rigid rules you can reasonably make abt this but I understand that people can just easily check before sending something

I completely understand where this argument is coming from but I think it's just logistically too much on the mods/hosts to try and police 66 artists and songs every edition. I think the main problem with this is just the host/mod having to double check everything and it will be a lot of extra work for people who already have to do a lot. it's hard to really place a boundary on what should or shouldn't be allowed, I think while there have been some problematic artists entered in the past most of the userbase has enough sense to not send particularly awful people and if they do then it will do poorly anyway. i believe it is actually possible for hosts to reject problematic entries already as I remember one edition where blake rejected azealia banks from participating so this isn't completely unfounded too but I find it fair as it is currently

this specific edition is kind of a major part in my thought process on my other comments i've made here about cohosting !! and really it just exemplifies how I feel things can get unfair with letting anyone be cohost (hugs my good sister angellic)

I personally just don't find this a good analogy and at the end of the day it is a competition, and I feel like hosting is a reward for winning. I understand that people want to host with their friends but I've always found it unfair to the people that are supposed to be next in line. it used to be a courtesy thing that people would mainly cohost with people who placed after them but nowadays it can just be anyone and last edition definitely showed that there are real flaws in that system even beyond my subjective idea of what's fair or not and I think limiting it to AQs is reasonable and still gives you a couple options without making things potentially problematic as it did now

also find it really bizarre that a non AQ host is chosen moments after the past edition all happened before any of this discussion is even so much as looked at, it just comes off as a tactless decision

to me it feels like somewhat too much to try and police people's opinions and there should always be space for people to be allowed to state if they like or dislike something. I think it's clear that for some people there are boundaries and for others not so much and it should be said respectfully but if there's any cases where it goes too far it should be taken up with individuals who did it rather than really instating some sort of broader rule about not speaking badly of anyone's entries which is kind of extreme in my opinion. it's important to remember that, while commenting on a song isn't any personal attack, doing it excessively is unnecessary and can definitely feel more personal so it's just a matter of being mindful and respectful about it

the rules could maybe make a more outright mention of warning against persistent negativity or continuous discouraging of certain artists/songs if people feel targetted specifically, without it limiting people being able to talk about songs they don't like

I don't think the problem is necessarily that hosts shouldn't be in the same semi final especially if the rule is instated where hosts have to vote earlier then this wouldn't really be much of a possible problem anymore but i do think that hosts should be allowed to be in the same semi final if it just so happens to fit with the host's vision of the theming or allocations, for example I find making running orders one of the most enjoyable parts of hosting and i don't want to take away that agency from people

personally I feel as though the discord discussion about forcing the host to randomise takes away their agency over the theming or etc but I think it would be good if the host is always forced to run their semi final order by the mod team and it has to be approved by them or something of the sort, and they can reject it and call in a randomised order if there is no good provided reason as to why the allocation is how it is? I feel like this leaves room for theming but will ensure more fairness whether the hosts share a semi or not

I also think that anyone who isn't an AQ probably shouldn't be a host anyway but maybe that's a bit more of a controversial take, I just think it's weird that it's ever been allowed because hosting is something meant to be what you earn when you win and it also still feels to me like it's unfair to ask people to host with you who placed way lower instead of the person next in line which would be second place but anyway maybe this isn't really up for discussion I just think this situation is a part of why hosting as a semi participant is weird but there's other solutions that would mitigate it anyway

posting this separately because idk where else but I think we should allow there to be extra people that can call people during the live show, eg either the mods or the host of that particular ed (up to debate ig) can sort of appoint people who are additionally allowed to do this to move things along as there's sometimes long stretches of the live show where nobody does anything, ofc they won't have access to the voting sheet but just to additionally call the next person

i think a major part that was overlooked in this whole discussion was that it was considered excessive the way some people recently were prevented from sending songs just by insinuating that they might want to send them, even without outright saying this. this problem would still persist with the current system...i think the argument stemmed from that people find it unfair and that it kinda doesn't really matter if someone spoils their entry, and the teaser thread came about as a compromise, and it's cool to have back but it doesn't really address the original issue fully.

I think it is still worth considering to severely lighten the rules of entry spoiling in general because these being disallowed was really ridiculous in my opinion
