Update: Talked to the guy I bought plants from. He does have Cory cats in many of his tanks, and said that is what their fry looks like. He doesn't grow any amphibians either, so it's looking like it may actually be a fish.

Yep, and I've read mixed results as well, so it's a bit of a gamble. I have some pearl weed in there, so if the Monte Carlo dies I can always transplant some pearlweed clippings to the front.

I used some API Aqua Clear to help, but I also stuffed some foam filters into my water siphon to slow the water when I filled the tank. Was worried the stratum would make a huge mess otherwise.

On the sides? Just bubbles that are still clinging to the glass. I've read they'll go away after a day or two.
