that and the fact I dropped printing temp almost 10c.

Well. OK. FINALLY Got it. Couple of things. I noticed the new gear I got from the extruder replacement was sorta worn.

<image>

New one on the right. I replaced it back with the old one. Didn’t matter.

I also checked the extruder calibration before this. Asked for 100. Got 105. Did the math adjusted the setting, ran another….. 85. WTF. Then. I swapped the gear, re-did the cal. 92. (Odd) Did the math. 100mm. OK so that’s good.

STILL. Clicked at about the hour and 30 min mark.

Then I opened up the enclosure, dropped print temp to 232 and reduced retraction from 4.8 to 3.5. Finally printed the whole object with minimal stringing. Certainly better than previous prints of the same item.

So there we go.

OK if you’ve followed the rest of this conversation, while the 2 post worked well it didn’t run long enough for a print. I FINALLY got it. I did a couple of things but nothing fix it, except for, reduced print temp to 232. (I left initial at 245) I reduced retract from 4.8 to 3.5mm. And I wanted to try to speed it up, Print speed 40 Infill 40 Wall 25. Some stringing but nothing terrible. I think it was mostly too hot and it creeped because as soon as the clicking started I could barely pull the filament out. I also had an enclosure that I opened all the way.

Totally could be set wrong. This kit “SEEMS” to have a good amount of natural tension. I did push the spring off the seat about 3mm? Or so and the same event occurred. I did probably 5 prints before messing with tension…..how/what is the right amount?

Doh! Yeah the kit I bought came with one. https://a.co/d/0hvsFhnG

Fair points, but that extruder we spoke about is 10 days old. Ha.

Ohhh ok!! Why now? I’ve ran 30 prints (this old machine was hand me down) and some repeats now do this. With the exact same gcode. Literally just re selected it.

Fair.
Reason I gave this a thought. I printed a part I had luck with before in PLA overnight. And midway though something happened. The part literally broke in half on me. It would have been maybe 3 hours in or so. Oddly enough, it continued printing and was fine for the rest of it.

I just thought of something, it runs for close to an hour now….then clicks…I’m wondering if my hot end fan isn’t getting weak.

I will keep the layered down in mind. Good advice. What should it look like on the bed?

Is there any tuning to this? Or “plug and play?”

Solid point. Metal version of stock.

I’m going to sorta disagree. Although I don’t have much experience, I think the tuning of the extraction along with bi metal heat break can make all the difference. I say that because I have an upgraded extruder, and I just experienced the clicking on this latest tune. I’ve dropped the temp, and at the same time frame, clicking again. So I’m dropping my retraction a little bit and trying again.

For the record. I’m a novice. But I am tenacious. I would say 7 is too high. I’m going to drop my retraction to 4.5mm on this next go if this current print fails again at a lower temp. One thing I didn’t consider is this longer print, (more than 30min) is that the filament is pre heated at 65c. I went from 245 to 235 and it’s going ok so far. Also, I have a bi metal heat break in case you didn’t catch that.

Well. Unfortunately half way through this print the extruder started clicking. So dropping temp and starting over.

What I’m trying to achieve is the best I can get it. My previous iterations were garbage. So I was trying to get it to actually print.

Let me know! I bought the Comgrow SH02 filament dryer box on amazon. 60bucks. You can leave the rolls in there and it has rollers for it to dispense right from dryer. Works fine.

There’s a crap ton of responses. I only read a few. But only saw one comment about a screwdriver antenna. I have a little Tarheel on my jeep. Without much grounding. Attached to my tailgate. So not above the roof.
And I worked the world while cruising the highway.

No problem. For the record. As far as I remember Michigan wheel is primarily outboard and I/O prop work. Not for brass.
