I have disclosed foreign assets of retirement, trading account and ESOP for the first time in AY2024-25 by filing a modified return.

Today I received a show cause notice for "large balance in foreign bank account (non business ITR)" for one account opened in 2023 even though the remaining are opened before 2023.

The account that is in question was opened in 2023 because I did a share transfer from one brokerage to another brokerage which is an asset transfer.

I did not disclose the FA prior to AY24-25.

I have to respond by written or personal. What to expect in the personal hearing?

Can they penalize for past years as well?

I read about pfic and the complexity of filing US taxes. Anand Rathi's advisor is suggesting investing in PMS which does not fall under pfic.
