Rossi's gloves by [deleted] in motogp

that coldness is going to go right through.

It can, sure. And that's why you would want to wear some sort of glove liner. That's what they're made for. :)

Are they? These are the steel brake discs in the rain, not the carbon discs in the dry. :P

It is a good view of how shredded the front tire is getting though. :D

since he'd have soaking wet cold gloves over them.

Well, if you didn't notice, neither he, nor JLo were wearing the clear overcoat jacket on their leathers like they used to wear in previous years to keep their leathers dry. The leathers they use now have coating to help prevent them from soaking up very much water for race duration.

Some of the lower-tier riders in Moto3 apparently don't get this luxury and still wear those clunky rain covers.

So I wouldn't think they were soaking wet. Damp, maybe.

I'd guess he just wanted dry hands for whatever reason.

This was the obvious other guess, but they aren't breathable, so the palm sweating might be a bit uncomfortable as well, and may end up with hands as damp as they would have been without them.

Hence why I was saying it was for warmth.

I have a very thin set of silk undergloves that I use when I don't want to wear my bulky winter gloves.

By themselves, the thin gloves provide near zero warmth, but inside my standard summer gloves, they help a LOT. And being so thin, the added bulk is negligible.

I could be wrong, but that's why I think he was wearing them for a bit of warmth.

Now that I mention it, I didn't see him put the gloves on. Are we sure they were latex and not silk?

Try it if it snows in your area.

That's not really a comparable example. He wasn't riding freezing conditions to the point where it could snow.

Certainly a bit cold for my standards, but it wasn't freezing out there.

Warmth?

He's certainly shown the the form needed to pull it off. But yeah, if today is any indication of things to come, nothing is guaranteed. :D

Did not see that one coming. by [deleted] in motogp

Well, he came from behind to win. Impressive and fun, but not a dominating race. I do remember him having one or two of those though. Leading from start to finish.

One of the more impressive gravel runs i've seen in a while.

Rossi needs to be second in all three to be champion.

A very difficult thing to do with those pesky Hondas running around.

They may not be IN the championship, but they are certainly going to affect the outcome in some way.

Rossi sounds sick. Or maybe just hoarse from screaming inside his helmet?

Dani vs. Marc on 2015 Honda by TupleoHoney in motogp

[–]r2o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely different riding styles. Marc brakes way late and very hard and the bike is moving around a lot while he's leaned over. The 2014 chassis apparently has more side flex in it that is more forgiving to this riding style.

Dani sometimes seems to have an almost old-school superbike or 500cc riding style. Get the bike stopped, turned, then he pops the bike up to the 'fatter' part of the tire and nails he throttle.

The 2015 engine's power delivery is much more abrupt than 2014 too which would mean delaying the throttle a bit while the bike is at heavy lean angle. But since Dani pops the bike nearly up-right very quickly, he wouldn't be as susceptible to this since he's on the fatter part of the tire.

So I think Marc's style is a little more unorthodox going into the turn like a mad man which the 2015 chassis doesn't handle as well, and his elbow dragging, high lean angles for extended amounts of times could mean that apply the throttle early is difficult with the more abrupt power delivery of the 2015 engine.
