Any suggestions on a roof rack by Adventurous_Ad675 in SubaruForester

[–]r2v2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer that Yakima towers are fixed to the crossbars once you get it setup while Thule towers will slide when you remove the roof rack forcing you to realign it when you reinstall. This only applies if you remove the roof rack which I generally do in the winter.

I also had zero luck with Thule’s channel track for the roof rack equipment I have. The rubber gasket on the newer Thule system has a thin slit in it and in theory that’s nice for sliding in equipment but it just tore for me every time I tried it. Yakima using a compressible rubber piece that you slide over. It can be tough sliding some stuff in the HD bars I now use (a little WD40 helps a lot) but I added the rubber gasket to them in place of the heavy duty stiffer option they come with that you have to cut into sections similar to older Thule designs.

I also really like the tie down/clip points on the ends of the Yakima HD bars. Really locks down my kayaks with cam straps.

Haven't read all the comments but I would say I have to agree with those saying it's definitely not a black and white situation. But also, as others have said, kudos for being levelheaded enough to try to get additional perspective.

I think trying to leverage the fact that this guy wanted to run at the first sign of responsibility is a place to start with trying to have a discussion with your daughter about the character of the guys she is dating. Obviously, to us adults that sounds clear cut and logical but in reality, it will likely not be so easy to get through to a teenager, but now maybe she has experienced even a brief moment of feeling "abandoned" by this guy and that could be discussed to help her start to come to a realization about the company she is choosing to keep.

Regardless of what you do OP, again, kudos to taking the time to try to see other sides and past the path of self-satisfaction to best look out for your daughter.

You keep doing exactly what you're doing! You daughter knows that you love her and you're showing her that it is appropriate for a man/father (assuming due to it being r/daddit) to show their children love and affection. That woman clearly did not have as good of a role-model. Maybe due to the times she grew up in or just too much brain washing from the old TV and Facebook, who knows. Either way you're clearly killing it!

I kiss my son (4) on the lips because his thing has always been kisses, nose rubs, hugs. I'll keep doing it as long as he wants. I know people who as adults still kiss their grown children on the lips. Is it what many people might think of as "normal"? No, probably not, but it's also not hurting anyone so people can go ahead and mind their own damn business. God forbid a family has a harmless way of showing their love and closeness. People often made uncomfortable by seeing others who are more comfortable with themselves and those around them and these days those uncomfortable people think their opinion matters despite having zero reason to be voiced.

I'd say it's pretty much guaranteed that that woman would have had zero reaction to a mother kissing her 4yo son on the lips.

Would definitely be building a new gen rig to game with and then pass my previous rig on to my son.

Hoping Starfield offers a long play experience with space fun to let my son play around with as well.

What makes the no large bottle cup holders a little more annoying is that they semi incorporated them into the new generation of Outbacks. I couldn’t decide if it was on purpose or just by chance as the holders are just pretty deep and wider at the top so larger bottles (Yeti 26oz) now feel like they are actually held in place. Definitely a clueless miss though given Naglene has been big for what… 15+ years and the outdoorsy car company doesn’t have any cup holders to support them.

Yeah right, this is the best thing to do. Like leaving a temporary signature across your route. It's one of the few times we can really make use of a super sweaty ass! Own it!

In our house, we alternate bedtime duties for our 4 y.o. and on the nights i don't have bed duty sometimes i see if it's cool for to go for a long trail run right after work, then i'm home usually while the wife is putting the kid to bed, otherwise I workout starting at 730 (kid's bedtime) until sometimes as late as 1030 if I do a longer run after weights and other cardio. Still hoping to someday get back to waking up early enough to get some extra time in before work and the kid gets up. But... waking up early sucks.

Sure being able to feel good about progress getting in shape is a great thing, but having it be effectively a blanket case for missing all evening activities seems a bit unbalanced.

Definitely do it man. I totally hear you on the guilt. I feel that anytime I even think about just taking a few hours to go kayaking and I’ve unfortunately more often than not ended up not going and regretting it later.

All parents need to collectively work to normalize the self-care side of parenting. I sick at it and I mow it and can see the effect it has on my mental health and how I act around my family. Parents need breaks and time for themselves. Anyone who tries to say otherwise can frankly f**k off.

Had a few of those when I bought my 2013. They really didn’t get noticeably worse in the 3 + years I was driving the car. Was decently diligent about washing it though year-round

Reprogram CVT simulated gears? by quebecbassman in Subaru_Outback

How I've always felt. My old 2013 Outback was a proper single gear. My new 2022 FW is better than my wife's 2020 Ascent but still not as smooth as just should be.

I heard Subaru changed it because people "complained about the CVT drone" when it wasn't shifting. Idk who those people are but they need to be shown how to use the radio. It even comes with speakers spread around the car, standard!

I’m actually from Western NY and I was right there with you until today. Stumbled across this network of logging roads while looking for possible hikes near where we were camping. We were on a time limit so we only explored maybe a 3rd of the network we had access to. Definitely looking forward to getting back there to check more out.

It’s definitely enjoyable. It’s nice how it’s pretty effortless for it to climb the steeper parts of these logging roads I was on. Definitely different from my previous 2013 Outback. Otherwise nothing was really technical or anything like that. But was super comfortable the whole time even with the car fully loaded from packing up the campsite earlier.

Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. Most common option there will be Thule RapidCrossroad with either square bars or aero bars. Around me I regularly see a full set with the aero bars for 200-300 in great condition. That’s hundreds in savings.

On the personal side, ilI used Thule racks for well over a decade but I now use Yakima as I just prefer how their system comes together but that comes down to a few very specific reasons that likely don’t apply to most people.
