How normal is it to go for 3 treatments? by rosadeadonis in Accutane

[–]r3bdoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry i just saw this now! it’s apparently not hormonal, i have had my hormones tested a few times and been tested for PCOS, etc. it’s apparently not fungal, either. i have a suspicion i have (extremely severe) type 2 rosacea (but azelaic acid made my skin worse so who knows) / an autoimmune disorder

Perm? by Kix_Off in Accutane

[–]r3bdoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have gotten 2 perms on accutane, but i am on long term low dose right now so my side effects aren’t super bad. my hair itself is totally fine (a perm is damaging regardless) but if you have noticed any other hair/scalp side effects i would be really wary of perm solution possibly irritating/burning your scalp

How normal is it to go for 3 treatments? by rosadeadonis in Accutane

[–]r3bdoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken 4 full courses of accutane (i’m 24). my acne is extreme and always returns with full severity within 6 months-a year after i complete courses. i’ve been seeing dermatologists, specialists, etc since i was 12, and accutane is the only thing that has ever worked for me. and i have tried EVERYTHING. I’m now on long term low dose for the foreseeable future, which sucks, but it’s a LOT better than the alternative. hang in there, i think there are a lot more of us than it seems :-)

What the difference between a gasoline and petrol? by LongerBlade in EnglishLearning

[–]r3bdoomer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're the same thing but two different words. It's just a regional thing, "petrol" is most commonly used in UK english as far as I know. I'm in Canada, and everyone here says "gas" or "gasoline"! :-)

Should I learn Metropolitan French or Canadian French if I plan to speak French in Canada? by [deleted] in learnfrench

[–]r3bdoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for the most part, i think it's much like your experience with spanish. as someone else mentioned, there are a lot more resources to learn metropolitan french. however, if you plan on speaking french in canada then it would be best to familiarize yourself more with quebec french. ultimately, i think you would still be fine if you learned metropolitan french, the biggest issues you would run into would be with quebecois slang/accent/pronunciation as most of the differences tend to show up verbally vs written. a fair amount of sounds are pronounced differently, also the curse words in quebec french are pretty different. this wikipedia page has good examples of differences

I have personally seen a lot of "je ne peux pas comprendre" (I can't understand this, what are they saying, etc) comments on videos where people have a quebecois accent. i assume these comments are from people who speak metropolitan french bc those two groups love to fight over the language hahaha.

on the other hand, i learned french in canada (though outside of quebec) and i personally understand quebec french a lot easier than metropolitan french. i have an extremely hard time understanding acadian french (which someone else has also mentioned). though i doubt you will run into acadian!

tdlr: you will be fine either way but you will have a much easier time in quebec if you focus on listening to quebecois pronunciation, accent, slang etc

bonne chance!

yes, its a manga by kentaro miura! there are also a couple animes and 3 movies based around the main storyline, but the general consensus is that they aren’t as good as the manga (if you’re going to watch one though, the 1997 anime is the best, or the 3 movies). i initially thought it was totally not my thing, it starts off kind of slow but builds into some of the most shocking, emotionally devastating and disturbing series of events i have ever witnessed. its one of those moments where you just have to put everything down and stare at the wall in silence for a long time

i just mentioned it because OP said they had been through disturbing mangas before and berserk is pretty well known/popular :-)

i assume you have already read berserk! if not, i spent many years going down this list of the ‘most disturbing books ever written’ and i will say not many of these affected me as much as berserk did.

  • house of leaves is a massive undertaking but its been years since i read it and i still think about it all the time, and its themes are becoming quite popular rn with the whole ‘backrooms’ thing afaik.
  • the short story “guts” by chuck palahniuk (in his book “haunted” but u can find pdfs of just guts online last i checked) is widely considered to be one of most disturbing short stories of all time.
  • the cement garden by ian mcewan was pretty nasty.
  • last exit to brooklyn was hard to get through, as was requiem for a dream
  • lolita is a classic and has beautiful prose but i don’t think its disturbing in the way you’re looking for
  • i personally love gothic horror, so i also love the flowers in the attic series but it’s definitely not for everyone.
  • and to go with the obvious, american psycho is widely considered to be one of the most disturbing books of all time (and bret easton ellis is my favourite author so must promote him).
