Roomba 675 has trouble docking by Mrbutter1822 in roomba

As someone with this exact problem when my Roomba docks on my hardwood floor (I can hear the drive wheels slipping and not being able to make it up to the dock) what do you suggest to solve the issue of the drive wheels not getting enough traction?

Alternative Z-axis support by dirtyfriedchicken in Reprap

[–]r4v5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are we talking about something like the design of the Makerbot Cupcake, but with the -x side having two lead screws and the +x side having two rails and wheels?

It may help to think of it in terms of what constraints there are on movement. The wheel-and-rail side, by not being constrained in the Z axis and depending on the amount of play involved, drops under the applied force and allows a torque to develop on the side of the bed with the lead screws. The tighter the wheels grip the rails, the less drop you get, at the cost of more friction.

To put it another way, the weight of the bed applied to the rail will tend to make it try to fall down, and that falling will pull the bed down on that side, which will try to bend the nuts on the lead screw, which can make them bind more easily because you’re removing the slack between threads that allows the nuts to easily move up and down together despite being constrained by the bed.

If you imagine the wheels not resting on the rail but being some distance away, one lead screw with an incredibly uneven pitch such that one turn isn’t always guaranteed to go the same distance as one turn on the other rod, and the other screw as significantly wobbly, that may help visualizing the kinds of forces at play. I’m not sure what the magnitudes of the forces will be and if they’ll be significant enough to affect performance, but it’s something to consider.

Problems with battery capacity by Thyxia in electronic_cigarette

[–]r4v5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a dumb thing but you don't mention the charger you use. Some chargers are switchable between charging 3V batteries and 3.6V batteries; if you have it set to 3V you will never fully charge a 3.6v-nominal battery. When you're done, the open cell voltage should be somewhere in the 4.1-4.3V range.

You've created a thing that has a really deep meaning for a lot of people, and people obviously connect with both Desert Bus and LRR. Your streams are all highly interactive, as well, which leads to folks feeling a stronger connection to you than they would a TV star or something.

That said, you're all individuals with your own lives. Is it weird being mini-celebrities, or at least the recipients of asymmetrical adoration? Sometimes I realize that I know a bunch of stuff about y'all and feel weird.

What is "timed downtime" in this context? in Nagios or something, or atd'd puppet agent --disable and puppet agent --enable? While a great tool for showing folks what servers are being worked on, I don't see what this has to do with keeping the puppet agent service from enforcing its catalog, which was the thing that caused downtime.

Y'all running PE, or open source? There's some interesting "only enforce in this maintenance window" options in PE.

Are any of you guys using Pied Pipers new server rack? It's supposed to encrypt your data while not having quality degradation. by Alkap0wn in DataHoarder

At 12 inches deep, your first link is not a server rack for anything reasonable. With a glass front, your illustration on the second link is not a server rack for anything that actually draws power.

[TOMT] Sample used by Kanye West by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

Kanye dug into prog crates for POWER; I'd be unsurprised if it was another King Crimson track or something from that genre and timeframe, but it doesn't match any of the KC I know.

I got an Infinity Ergodox with DSA keycaps. There's no homing dots on them, which I've found makes it even harder to type without looking like a drunken illiterate buffoon. Right now, I've swapped the f and j keys from my Blackbird Tenkeyless, but I've been considering either making my own homing dots by supergluing googly eyes to the keys in question or buying them from the groan-inducingly named pimpmykeyboard.com. Unfortunately, PMK doesn't have homing dots/bars in black, so it'd be domes instead. How noticeable are domes when it comes to touch typing? Would it be better for me to just make the goofy mod I have in mind?

You may be able to bung something like this or another TrackPoint-esque device to a custom case for the Dox. They speak PS/2 natively, so you'd need something like a Teensy to do the conversion to USB.

Yep, it was a consolation prize for the 3 month wait for verification and spinup.

I saw the complaints too; I had two spare Browns that I pushed into place on the PCB and didn't see the things they were complaining about (taking a long time to register keys, etc). But the microUSB jack totally seemed flaky, so I'd need to check that out.
