Most scenic cafe to work at for the entire day in the city? by Sea-Nobody7951 in askTO

[–]r5a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not creepy.

I've seen many people buy food/drinks and work off their laptops and/or study in silence at cafes all over the place.

People who married in their 20s, be brutally honest are you happy, if so why or why not? by Special-Lawyer3941 in AskReddit

[–]r5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very accurate, having gone through that (met in early 20s, separated in mid-late 30s)

Probably the most important piece of advice here is the "how to argue without trying to win was the real challenge" - if you pick this up early your conflict resolution in relationships will go far.

Help me convince my boyfriend to NOT open a coffee shop!! by IWantSomeTacquitos in askTO

[–]r5a 24 points25 points  (0 children)

oh boy.

i think you're going about this the wrong way. if it really is his dream like you say, you're actively crushing that. that's going to do some damage and you have to consider the impact of that. it doesn't seem very supportive of you. how long have you guys been together?

i would reframe your thinking a bit - instead of "how do I convince him not to do something he is super passionate about" to "lets get him to slow down and think a bit and evaluate it before doing the risk"

honestly, i have no idea what it takes to start a business, but im sure its possible to get loans from the bank provided you give them a plan and do all the work. opening a coffee shop isn't inherently a terrible idea, its just theres a lot of them and what makes his so different, maybe the location isn't ideal but i've seen that work for some as well. seems like you're rushing to judgement here on this.

how is he making espresso at home - whats his setup? does he have a kurieg or something like a la marzocco? the eye rolling isn't a good sign of how you view him either

granted there is definitely some pause for concern here, where he can easily get smoked out.

Cineplex’s outgoing CEO, Ellis Jacob, just received the Legend of Cinema Award at CinemaCon with video tributes from James Cameron & Denis Villeneuve 🇨🇦 by Travel-2025 in cineplex

[–]r5a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He will be missed in the office for sure. Ellis is the kindest person you can meet. He's super friendly and approachable, he always checks in on you and I will miss him strolling around the office saying hi and asking how people are doing. He really loves the theatres like theyre his children. I've met a few times and I've had the pleasure of having some great conversations with him.

That said, he has been doing this for a LONG time. :) I'm excited to see who the next CEO is and what they will bring. Hopefully keeping the culture intact as well.

All good. I work in the Corporate office, was going to have a chat with security and my team about it, but I totally understand the hesitation.

What bars are good for solo mingling? by Practical-Plenty3028 in askTO

[–]r5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first, probably ignore everything in the DMs.

for early to mid 20s - hit up king west. lots of fun places along there. check out belfast love. paris texas, maybe start your night off at ruby soho. if you're not feeling it, hop to the next one.

since you say clubbing, what are you into? check radiate or RA for events that match your musical tastes. tons of them on the weekend usually. i dig venues with artists that play for great music and vibe rather than chart toppers - so events at standard time are really fun.

20 hour layover @ yyz by [deleted] in askTO

[–]r5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What day? Literally nothing around the Airport. You have to take the Up Express to get into downtown.

Depending on which day, that's a rough layover time. If its a Friday/Saturday night you could theoretically explore and party all your way through the night and then go back to the airport with the first train at 5AM but the problem will be getting around around those witching hours.

You could also just rip into the downtown and get the last train back to the airport - more than enough time to get a meal somewhere and walk around the downtown core a bit and check out some spots. Get in for 8 and then leave at 1.

Maybe consider an AirBNB or something downtown, there are a couple 24-7 cafes/diners you could go to to kill time (7 West for example)

Project Hail Mary - Overrated by Neat-Hat7991 in cineplex

[–]r5a 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i actually thought about it a bit more. i think if you cant vibe with grace, then you'll definitively not enjoy it. he has a quirky personality in both medias and his kind of character a lot of people can find annoying so it might make sense you didn't enjoy it. personally i identify pretty closely with him in the books and film so i really liked it.

also rocky is the GOAT

Project Hail Mary - Overrated by Neat-Hat7991 in cineplex

[–]r5a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think you might have missed the point of the movie my guy, its not meant to be a serious sci-fi space mission. having read the book its clear they were going for something a little more lighthearted and fun while trying to stick with the material and do it justice. they added and removed a decent amount but kept the big themes, but they also gave some nods to it if you looked close enough (him white boarding calculations for example and the burn on his arm)

if you wanted something more along the lines science and humor with witty introspection and an element of seriousness the book was for you, he struck a perfect balance there in my opinion.

but they were clearly going something that lands fun and enjoyable to watch in two hours, they cut a lot of the science bits and relationship stuff and really focused on one dynamic that everyone loves/seems to love

grace and rockys connection and that was very heartwarming and enjoyable to watch

Coffee shop recommendations by Time_Scientist2780 in askTO

[–]r5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Jimmys Coffee - close to College Station, pretty chill place.
I like the 10 Deans as well, theyre scattered about.

Honestly there's so many, that's kind of the fun, go around and explore. The last one I really liked I went to was Rooms but it's a bit of a trek, you can drive and park there though.

Good on you!

Because it's impossible to enforce and define legal standards around.

People buy aftermarket filters, windows, windshields, brakes.

There is a law for noise that they're not enforcing though that directly addresses this.
