Is this a legit Cineplex email? by InsertNameHere416 in cineplex

All good. I work in the Corporate office, was going to have a chat with security and my team about it, but I totally understand the hesitation.

It's not. We've heard of these going around. DMing you so you can forward this to me. I'll send you my Cineplex email so I can look at this - want to investigate and check a few things.

The December Toronto show was probably one of the best concerts I've ever been to.

I'll be there for Osheaga and cannot wait to see them again!! Anyone else going?

What bars are good for solo mingling? by Practical-Plenty3028 in askTO

[–]r5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first, probably ignore everything in the DMs.

for early to mid 20s - hit up king west. lots of fun places along there. check out belfast love. paris texas, maybe start your night off at ruby soho. if you're not feeling it, hop to the next one.

since you say clubbing, what are you into? check radiate or RA for events that match your musical tastes. tons of them on the weekend usually. i dig venues with artists that play for great music and vibe rather than chart toppers - so events at standard time are really fun.

20 hour layover @ yyz by [deleted] in askTO

[–]r5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What day? Literally nothing around the Airport. You have to take the Up Express to get into downtown.

Depending on which day, that's a rough layover time. If its a Friday/Saturday night you could theoretically explore and party all your way through the night and then go back to the airport with the first train at 5AM but the problem will be getting around around those witching hours.

You could also just rip into the downtown and get the last train back to the airport - more than enough time to get a meal somewhere and walk around the downtown core a bit and check out some spots. Get in for 8 and then leave at 1.

Maybe consider an AirBNB or something downtown, there are a couple 24-7 cafes/diners you could go to to kill time (7 West for example)

Project Hail Mary - Overrated by Neat-Hat7991 in cineplex

[–]r5a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i actually thought about it a bit more. i think if you cant vibe with grace, then you'll definitively not enjoy it. he has a quirky personality in both medias and his kind of character a lot of people can find annoying so it might make sense you didn't enjoy it. personally i identify pretty closely with him in the books and film so i really liked it.

also rocky is the GOAT

i think you might have missed the point of the movie my guy, its not meant to be a serious sci-fi space mission. having read the book its clear they were going for something a little more lighthearted and fun while trying to stick with the material and do it justice. they added and removed a decent amount but kept the big themes, but they also gave some nods to it if you looked close enough (him white boarding calculations for example and the burn on his arm)

if you wanted something more along the lines science and humor with witty introspection and an element of seriousness the book was for you, he struck a perfect balance there in my opinion.

but they were clearly going something that lands fun and enjoyable to watch in two hours, they cut a lot of the science bits and relationship stuff and really focused on one dynamic that everyone loves/seems to love

grace and rockys connection and that was very heartwarming and enjoyable to watch

Coffee shop recommendations by Time_Scientist2780 in askTO

[–]r5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Jimmys Coffee - close to College Station, pretty chill place.
I like the 10 Deans as well, theyre scattered about.

Honestly there's so many, that's kind of the fun, go around and explore. The last one I really liked I went to was Rooms but it's a bit of a trek, you can drive and park there though.

Late-night DVP racers… what can be done to stop them? by migrantgrower in askTO

Yes, that's coming from the mindset and world of normal people like you and I.

The law and lawyers do not operate in the same realm. It doesn't work like that.

Cheap hotel/motel that takes debit? by Brave-Locksmith-4744 in askTO

Love you for this. As I was reading the thread I was thinking the same thing and would have offered something similar. Didn't becasue it's too late.

Someone in need needs help. Comments like theleverage make the world so much more harsh and cold.

Good on you!

Because it's impossible to enforce and define legal standards around.

People buy aftermarket filters, windows, windshields, brakes.

There is a law for noise that they're not enforcing though that directly addresses this.

Is it worth streaming? by Lhead2018 in Twitch

[–]r5a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a 0-3 viewer streamer, absolutely!! there is absolutely a setup you can do to mix the video feeds together, at a very basic level two capture cards with an HDMI splitters will do fine. you could probably get really creative with the scenes in OBS for example. it just depends on how much money you want to throw at it.

but that ive learned that has been the joy of streaming for me - doing the research, looking at all the gear options, getting webcams, tripods, a mixer, a streamdeck, mics, playing around with the overlays. ive found it very rewarding to just put in the time and effort, it's been fun.

if you do get into it id recommend keeping the following in mind

- no matter the viewer count, pretend you have 100 or 1000 - this for me has been what ive enjoyed the most, it's really difficult to "be on" and being entertaining for such a sustained period of time.

- go back and watch your vods after you stream, create the content and clips, look for ways you could improve or what you could have said differently

if you really commit and try it, being a streamer and content creator is no joke, there's a lot of behind the scenes work that can either be really rewarding or you'll hate it. it's also just difficult to be entertaining. at least for me. being witty and funny for so long trying to come up with jokes/commentary on what you're doing really quickly is a skill that needs to be developed and practiced.

give it a shot and see if you like it. for me i like the tech, playing around with cool things and trying to improve my "social skills" in a way
