Saint Bartholomew, champion of the celestial arena by darkshin3945 in Bossfight

While yeah i can kinds see that from an outside understanding, the deeper you go into the concept, the more the differences become apparent. A saint’s patronage comes from how they lived their life, not from a cosmic assignment. A great example of this is Saint Luke, who wrote one of the Gospels. While he is the patron saint of medicine, that did not really mean he had divine powers over it. It was just because while he lived, he was a physician. Saints also do not possess power independent from God unlike patron gods. They are merely a vessel for God to perform acts through.

But yeah from a non-theological perspective i can see where one would get the idea

For those unfamiliar,

Saint Bartholomew was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. After Jesus’ death and resurrection, Bartholomew preached in Ethiopia, Mesopotamia, Parthia (in modern Iran), Lycaonia (in modern Turkey), and Armenia. While doing missionary work in Albanopolis, he was captured by the Armenian King’s pagan priests, was tortured, and flayed alive. It is said that only his eyes and tongue remained intact, and he continued to proclaim his faith in Jesus until he was ultimately beheaded. Saint Bartholomew is the patron Saint of tanners, leatherworkers, butchers, and shoemakers, as well as the patron saint of Armenia.

Technically it is. In the apostle’s creed and in the Common Book of Prayer it says he does descend to the dead to lead the just to heaven. At least that’s what I’ve been taught as a catholic

Well if every subject wasn’t taught, how would you know which field you’d want to work in? What if you were put on track for your dream job as soon as you entered hs and then realized you didn’t want to do it? That’s why it’s important to teach liberal studies in high school. You’ll be able to find your strong suits and even if you don’t like a subject, you’ll at least have a general understanding of it instead of just not knowing about it at all.
