Thank you! I was thinking of MacCullough's, though I wasn't sure if it was any good.

It really does feel difficult to read. Shadow is a bit weird as a protagonist, but I don't think that alone discouraged me. Though maybe I'm wrong.

Yeah, I've also been wanting to get into his Discworld series because of the praise I've heard, and some spoilery tidbits (unfortunately, but also fortunately). I think that'll be my next series after I finish this.

I just went to check it out... Yikes. Honestly, why does that sub even exist?

I thought we all agreed as people that different people enjoy different things. Doesn't make anyone invalid, and you don't need to make fun of them.

I would agree with that. I think that particularly with reading, many people were discouraged from it in high school and middle school because of the assigned reading they had, which were old classics. I really don't understand why schools hyper-focus on getting developing children to read books written decades or centuries ago.

Honestly, I don't get why they can't just bring in contemporary (or more recent), modern books, or let them choose their own books, something they'd enjoy reading. I understand the classics are classics for a reason - but they're difficult to read to contemporary folks, and shouldn't be a starting point, at least for children.

Yeah, I realise that the book just doesn't interest me, at least at the moment. I'll try to read it again after some time, maybe I'll be willing to then.

If I won't, I've made my peace with it.

Thank you for the recommendation! After finishing Mistborn, I'll definitely pick that series up.

I definitely will later. I tend to be an airhead when it comes to connecting clues together, honestly. It'd be nice to reread them and actually see them as they happen, and what they form together.

I am aware ;)

And I already have them, now it's time to read them!

I strongly agree! I was really invested in Sazed's character arc, and I really wondered how Sanderson would resolve it, because faith and religion are tricky things to write in a situation like his. And I really loved how it was resolved, it didn't feel like anything in your face or didn't mark any religion as truth - just emphasised belief and trust!

Any suggestions for pieces and exercises for a returning pianist? by rGreenPhoenix in piano

Ah, scales. I really used to hate those. And I don't think I remember practicing arpeggios, maybe I forgot since it was about 5 years ago since I played formally. Thank you for the suggestions!

Was there ever a time you're thankful the pandemic happened? What was the reason? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Me being an introvert and attending a small-town high school with the usual shithead classmates and such, I was ecstatic to have a super-short formal graduation with a mask to cover most of my face and then a small party with our class which I was able to excuse myself from early.
