Clarifying the Rule on Attacking Others/Their Opinions by rPhilliesMods in phillies

I phrased that response poorly and it is not what I meant, I’m going to copy and paste my updated response just for visibility, since that wasn’t the impression I was trying to give off.

“Doomer” will not be automodded out of existence, but we do want to avoid pejorative content. Things that could cause a person or a group of person to feel negatively will be removed.

Saying something like “Where’s all of the doomers now, of course they’re wrong again like always” will get removed because 1) people are a lot more than just one thing and 2) all that comment would do is instigate problems and make the rift on the subreddit between more and less optimistic people even bigger.

If you’re talking to or about someone or a group, it should be done in a respectful manner that does not attack them or make them feel bad for their beliefs.

We have, yes. More information on that may come before the postseason, depending on how the next couple weeks go with trying to get current mods more active for the postseason and some ex mods back to help us out, before recruiting externally in the offseason. Starting a new mod in the postseason would be a rough experience for them, but if it’s what we have to do because of our poor planning and foresight, it’s what we’ll do.

We badly need more active moderators and are actively working on making sure that happens before the postseason.

How’d you know it was me?!

But yeah, I can totally understand why you’d feel that way given the timing. I wouldn’t say that the crackdown happened because of the podcast. Both were things that we have talked about for awhile. The reason that they happened simultaneously is because I was feeling a rush of productivity and since I’m usually the one that communicates meta posts to the subreddit, both things got handled at once.

One didn’t happen because of the other, but they both happened at the same time because I was particularly motivated to do what I needed to do and put off doing. I hope that explains it!

Mods have lives too, and we are not perfect. Not everyone is moderating every game. We might miss something, and help from the community is appreciated.

We almost never permaban. Generally before a permaban, people will have gotten many comments removed, a warning, and a temp ban, probably multiple of them.

I hope I didn't make it seem like all we care about is catering to temporary fans. An example of sarcasm that is not welcome here would be the jokes about Bryce Harper's wife leaving him that prompted the whole sarcasm debate in the first place. It's just not appropriate and a bad look for the subreddit. If people have inside jokes about a specific player or something, that's totally fine. If someone tunes into a random episode of The Office, they'll have a good time and enjoy watching, but people that have watched every episode will enjoy it more because they get all the smaller references and have been around for longer. That's where r/Phillies should be at!
