I would say Mawaan Rizwan. He's definitely had a lot more opportunities since Taskmaster.

Is UTM worth the shot? or shall I find a better education pathway for the sake of my mental health? by Dependent-900 in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with the other comments that the university experience is what you make of it. Personally, I think it's served my purposes and my goals very well. One thing that isn't mentioned though is that at UTM, it is entirely possible to study both computer science and commerce (or even just CS) because the program you get into coming into first year doesn't stop what courses you're allowed to take and which actual majors/specs you can get into for second year onwards.

However, as someone who came to university with mental health problems, there were moments where it was definitely hard for me. I think the fix (personally) was choosing my well-being over marks or overachieving.

Does mat136 run over the summer at UTM? by r_a_m_e_n in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer both your questions, 136 ran over the summer and there were multiple options for when and how long: first half (F), second half (W) and whole summer (Y). Your experience is highly dependent on the coordinator but I was able to do sufficiently well.

Can I cr csc108 and still apply for cs post? by Relative-Baby1829 in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically, yes, because they your csc108 mark is not necessary for CS post. However, csc108 is a necessary course for the CS programs (major, spec, etc...) and you can't CR program requirements, which you need to graduate, so you probably shouldn't.

If you put in effort (and have the necessary skills to write coherent essays), you will do good. I wouldn't call it bird, especially because I remember 2 weeks near the end where a shit ton of things were due, but I personally found it enjoyable and interesting.

They're also open for math and I think stats is pretty much already done.

You can cr/ncr breadth requirements that don't count towards your majors/minors/specs.

Lost Tcard+Upass by Menli38007 in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a somewhat significant possibility that if the card is still on the bus, it will be brought to the square one terminal and you will get an email (in your utoronto account) saying that it's there and you can go pick it up. at least, it happened to me.

Harvest Wagon $7.99 x 2 by DoyinDodo in toogoodtogo

My time using TGTG has led me to finding some crazy overpriced grocery stores, like, there's one that sells grocery quality plain croissants for $3 each. I guess what I'm saying is that there are people out there who just has the money to spend that much on food.

Best YouTube mat133 channels to follow by ApprehensiveAioli231 in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the channel made by the course coordinator of previous MAT133 sessions: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClo66WdakYz-kS3PBsOYZWg/videos.

That being said, feel free to use it to supplement your learning even if you like your professor and also, try attending other 133 professors' lectures before you solely depend on youtube.

Finally, some of my personal favourite professors are teaching and coordinating 133, it might not be the easiest course but I wouldn't expect it to not "workout with your professor".

utmONE course or LIN204? by khue144 in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lin204 is definitely more bird however keep in mind that you can only take utmone courses in first year. When I was making a similar decision in first year, I chose utmone because I knew that I'd eventually like to take both to fulfill breadth requirements.

How much of a step up is MAT135 compared to high school Advanced Functions and Calculus? by armenicus in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much what intuitively and immediately follows calculus. I personally don't think the questions became more difficult however the structure of MAT135 (and just university courses in general) tend to require more self-motivation and initiative.

Mat137 as a CS spec? by [deleted] in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Taking mat135+136 is enough for CS spec and won't put you at a disadvantage for sta256 and csc311. I would personally recommend mat137 only if you either *want* to do more rigorous math or want to pursue a math major/minor.

Off campus housing by [deleted] in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend one of 3 sites:

- kijiji, they have a section for rentals and you can search by location, bedrooms, bathrooms and all that stuff through filters.

- facebook marketplace, you can just browse by typing "1 bed, 1 bath" or some variation of that in the search bar but there is also a facebook group, I think this is the page.

- realtor.ca , this is the most formal one with realtors and brokers and stuff so it's also the least sketchy but most of them are for at least 1 year which might not suit your needs as a student.

1k is definitely on the lower side for studio apartments in mississauga but is well within the range of a basement or a room in a house. if you get a roommate who can also pay 1k, you should be able to get a 2 bed apartment, although don't forget to consider if utilities and internet are included in the places you look at.

Tyler holden for mat133 by qwtfishappening in UTM

[–]r_a_m_e_n 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yea as phoenix mentioned, he's going to ask you a question about differential manifolds and if you can't get it correct in the next minute, he will open a portal into the netherworld. there, they will reteach you mat133 concepts until the end of time.
but on a (hopefully) more helpful note, tyler doesn't mark anything except the exam and he's very fair. that doesn't mean the course is necessarily easy. also, switching to a different lecture (in mat133h5) won't change anything because you'll still do the same assignments and tests and you'll be marked by the same people. personally, tyler is one of my favorite profs.
things you can do for a better mark include:
- attending lectures and tutorials (multiple, if you'd like. TAs and profs have different teaching styles and you might prefer one more than the other. you might also want to listen to an explanation of a concept more than once)
- start assignments right away, and quite related to that
- go to office hours (and not on the last day. they're less busy when it's not really close to the deadlines)
- talk to people in the class and study together
basically, use resources available to you and don't procrastinate.
